Insurance should still cover the wreck. I work in the industry, so I know the language that insurance companies use.
The key here is that you gave permission for that driver to use your car. So, regardless of his license/insurance situation, your insurance would cover it. Insurance also follows the car first, and the driver second. So, even if that other driver had insurance, your insurance would pay out any damages first, and his second. Had you not given permission, your insurance would not cover the damages, and that driver would have been responsble, by law, for paying all the damages.
Hope that helps.

No...No...No. You should NEVER let someone drive your car if they don't have a license and insurance coverage. I sure hope this is just a hypothetical question and not something that's already happened.

Here in Australia, the answer is NO!
Even if you gave permission, coz the fact will still come up that you willingly let someone who was unlicensed drive your car.
However, if there was an accident & a 2nd person in another car was found to be at fault, then their insurance will cover the damage to yours.
I'm pretty sure that's how it goes here anyway.
I wont let anyone drive my car - licensed or otherwise - i just don't trust people enough to lend them something like that.
