Hi everyone, I was just wondering if Australians eat Kangaroos. An Aussie friend of mine simply denies it whereas my kid sister who is studying there says that Aussies love eating Kangaroos. So who is right? Just wondering.......and if so aren't these species endangered?

People here in Australia do eat kangaroo also emu and crocodile but i think it`s mainly tourist who do it`s something that i would never considering doing in a million years .I live out in the country in A ustralia and i know for a fact that kangaroos have worms in their muscle not just in their gut like most other animals it`s something most consumers are not aware about . I think it`s disguisting

I moved to Australia 2 years ago and I know that they do sell kangeroo meat in the supermarkets over here. I don't think many Australians eat it. I have tried it once and I have to say it's quite tasty. I always joke with my family overseas that when they come and visit we get some roadkill (kangeroo meat)for them.

Hi, I just asked my husband who is an Australian about your query and it turns out 99% of the Australian population would NOT eat kangaroos. The 1% that does are tourists because they think it's quaint and authentic, but mainly it's just because the Australian tourism department pushes it as an excuse to make more money. Chris and I personally wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole, because it's unclean (not kosher), however it makes for good dogmeat! They are definitely NOT an endangered species, they're more like a pest. They eat all of the farmer's crops, which is a pain in the *%# because of the drought so we generally shoot them as much as we can. Driving your vehicle at certain times of the day can get pretty dangerous too when they decide to jump out and crash into you. Anyway, hope this answers your question.

I recieved the same response from my australian friend..she was actually quiet offended when I asked her about it but i wouldn't call animals pests, they need their wildlife and we need ours..live and let live...The bit about them on hopping up at you, is I admit a real scare...Thanks for the response!

I have eaten Kangaroo before, but it was and is more of an Aboriginal delicacy. They like to eat the tails. I found the meat a little tough but very tasty. You don't see many people buy kangaroo meat though.
