final stages toilet training

My almost 3.5 year old son has been toilet trained for a good part of last year now and not wearing nappies at all during the day , it is the final stages I am strugglig a lot with. He still asks for a nappy when he wants to do a poo and will not do it whatever I promise him . He even did it couple of times when we were visiting overseas but clammed up again. Secondly , the night nappy , I havent been brave enough to take it off totally even though he will always ask to go to the toilet if he wants to wee , Im not sure what he will do in his sleep. Suggestions , ideas , all welcome :)
