I am going to go broke trying to find a mascara that I like. I can't seem to find just the right one that doesn't Clump, Flake, smear/bleed or burn my eyes? What do you use? I have average length lashes, kinda light in color and I want nice "natural" looking lashes with color and length? Tell me what works for you?

The reason the mascara starts irritating your eyes is not because of the quality of the product, but because it becomes contaminated with bacteria after frequent uses. A previous responder stated that it is important to have a clean face when applying your makeup and this is especially true of eye makeup. Here is a website that talks about safe use of cosmetics and more importantly, the eye problems that you can develop by not being cautious. http://www.uic.edu/com/eye/learningaboutvision/eyefacts/cosmetics.shtml (Seeing as how I can't copy and paste, lets hope I got that right.) In any event, your topic might be a chick topic, it is nonetheless something we should all give more thought to. The recommended protocol, however, is that you should replace your mascara after 3 months. I never do, so I guess I had better go through my cosmetics drawer and chuck the stuff that has been there for 12 years.

Yes I know that your right about watching out for the contamination. My friend bought some little circle sticky dots and when she buys a new eye makeup she puts the date on the tube or container and in 60 days she throws it out? she doesn't have a problem. Part of the problem I think is that with most or all of the mascara tubes you use the same same brush, pump it in and out and use after use after use it's exposed to the elements I guess. I always put it on a clean face. So I don't think that is the issue? We'll get to the bottom of this. Thanks for your excellent response.

For me Revlon thick lashes mascara works good! Before I was using Lakme that was also really good. For thick volumes I am using this Revlon, it is good and not irritating. But make sure you remove it before you go to sleep. Also before applying mascara let the lashes be clean. If it is applied in a hurry while on the way or without cleaning bcoz of dust or something also it might irritate.

Great! thank you. I don't think that is one that I have tried yet. I should have mentioned I have tried: Mayelline "Great Lash" Loreal "Voluminous" Max Factor "200 Calorie Lashes" ( It's real good for about 1/2 the tube then it irritates my eyes) MAC _ lash- Very good just a bit pricey Avon - not sure which one theirs was called Cover Girl " Lash lushcious or something like that So? What else you got that can help?

I think I have tried every one on the market. The worst ones for me were the ones with little fibers in them to make your eyelashes fuller, thicker etc. as the little fibers (hairs) would get into my eyes and drive me crazy. I always go back the same Maybelline "Great Lash" in the pink container with the green top. It has been around forever.

Hi matlgal.I dont use a lot of mascara, because I am just like you I can not fine any kind that I like. Right now I am trying out covergirl lash exact so far I would say it the best I ever had. It does not clump, flake and it does not burn my eyes.

Patty- that sounds a bit to "industrial strength" for me, but I may have to look that up. Thanks for sharing.

Great question. My problems are that it almost always smudges under my eyes, and since I don't put make-up on every day anymore, mascara can last a year or more. But we're supposed to replace them every few months, so this is expensive. I'm considering permanent eye liner. At least I'll look half made-up every day and can just add mascara for that extra touch.

great idea !!! I could go get permanent dye? I am nothing without my mascara, so going without is not an option. But you have a good point on the permanent part. I may check in to that. THanks !

I've never had a tattoo before. I might be nuts for starting with my eyes. I'm also thinking about a couple of tattooed rings and a bracelet. I'll be 60 this summer. Am I too old for this stuff? :-)

I like the idea of having eye-liner permanently tatooed on your eyes, and you'r right about it not smudging. The mother of a friend of mine had her eye-liner tattooed on when she was in her 70's, mainly because her hands were no longer steady, so it made it difficult for her to get it on evenly. So, there, you re never too old to want to look your best. Speaking of getting too old, my mother-in-law got upset with my husband when he gave her plain thermal underwear to keep her warm (apparently when we get into our 90's we will be cold all the time,) because it wasn't glamorous.

I use either CoverGirl Greatlash, or L'Oreal (both waterproof, cuz I laugh a lot! LOL). They both seem to stay on the best and last the longest. I've tried Maybelline and Max Factor, but unfortunately found out that I am allergic to both! Ugh!

The process is truly grueling isn't it. Not to mention expensive. I will continue the search. THanks for your comments.

Well, i have to becareful with make up because it will irritate my eyes as well. But as far as mascara goes, ive learned for myself that the cheaper brands work the best. I dont like to spend alot of money on something that just ends really clumpy, so at walmart, i just go to the cheap section and use that kind!
