Have you ever felt like you have crossed "the line?"

Is there a line between genius and insanity?
I have several times felt I was insane. Now that I'm wiser I realise that I was at the edge of despair and falling into a deep depression. This the result of being badly treated, miserably unhappy and knowing I was a fool, and being embarrassed and having no-one to talk to and knowing no-one cared. Sounds like self pity I realise but it's actually the knowledge that you've degraded yourself and allowed yourself to be degraded. Not a nice place to be.

It´s strange that you´re using the metaphore of sitting on a fence and the feeling that you could fall either way, because this is exactly the way I described the way I feel sometimes to a friend.
I don´t know about the genius (never considered the idea that this expression could possibly have anything to do with me), but the insanity feeling is very familiar to me, lol. To me it´s like a strange moment when you feel that it would be so easy to loose your mind.
I´d probably be insane if I didn´t have my daughter, lol. Or a genius, who knows?
Thanks for a great discussion topic, Ally. Deserves a
+++.

This is a very good question as I know that I have felt like I have crossed the line many times. I am always going back and forth between genius and insanity as well as other things too. At times I feel like I will go insane either while at work or at bowling or something else that may be causing me a lot of stress. Many times at work I will feel like a genius because I am able to help out my students many times. Every day is an adventure for me mentally. :-)

Just like love and hate straddle a thin line, genius and insanity does too.
A walk on the insane side is sometimes a great thing when you manage to do so without harming another or yourself. When you reach that point and feel like you do it is time for a break and become more balanced. Something has pushed you to this point and more that likely you have had some hand in it.
Good luck with this situation in your life.

I think I crossed the line way back :) I never claimed to be fully sane. It's far too boring to be sane all the time after all. Not really sure on the genius part but I do have my moments where I get a good idea now and then.

This is a good posting, and I have rated you again a + for it. Keep it up. In answer to your question, yes, I have been there too. When a lot of pressures and stresses get to me, that will happen. I hope everything is okay with you sugar.

I have always been taught there is a fine line between genius and sanity. I think many days after work I do cross that line right into insanity. I start out pretty darn genius in the beginning of the day, but by the time I deal with every idiot God put on this earth I am insane! LOL

Gee, I must be abnormal. I have never considered myself to be a genius but I have never thought that I was insane either. Maybe a sittle stupid at times but that's as bad as it's got...lol.

I don't think I have too much danger of 'tipping over' into the genius side .. but I definitely sit on the fence .. or in fact I like to think of it as my 'lighter and darker' sides ..
You see when I do something really well and therefore get a 'buzz' out of it I can feel 'light' and 'bright' ... but when I do things badly or stupidly I feel a reall heavy weight on me and can feel 'despair' come and sit on my shoulder ..

Well I don't know about the genius part...lol But I think I know what you mean. Somedays it seems like I am living on the edge of insanity. One little gust could just send me over that edge and into the abyss... Usually it's when I am depressed and feeling really bad. So far I haven't fallen over the edge but my safety line is freying...lol

Yes, I have those moments, every once in a while, lol. That makes me feel like I am in some sort of twilight, lol. I think, that it is good for us sometimes, to break away from reality and to also engage in a bit of genius and insanity. That way, we can come back to reality with more appreciation and a more pronounced path in life.

some days I am afraid that I am tilting onto the insane side of the fence. I dont know I wonder sometimes. I dont think there is any danger of me being on the genius side of the fence anytime soon. LOL
