Most people will tell you that dogs are smarter than cats because it seems you can teach them more commands. I think they are of comparable intelligence but dogs have this "need to please" and the cats are just there to please themselves. I have seen cats that have been trained to do some amazing things so I know that they are capable of learning.

You're so right. The only dumb cat we've been able to come up with is Sylvester, and he gets outsmarted by a canary!

Its really a smart question I think no one could think of that which one is better IO mean smart.According to the job specification both of them are smart. But in few caces the dog is more smarter than the cat because of sense of smell present in the dog.

I'll agree that dogs have a better smell than cats, but I believe a cat would outsmart a dog if it came down to the crunch. I like dogs better though.

i think dogs have to be the smarter one's for two reasons bcos they are so faithful towards human and they can sniff things so easily and be a real guard to a family..
But i don't know how cats can be of help or more smarter except for the fact that they bury their pooh.. u know their dirt.. So i guess they are smart but i do so much want the dogs to be smarter cos i love them sooooooo much and i have a lovely labrador black one only 10 months old and he is awesome

Well I don't agree with you, but I do like dogs better than cats. Enjoy and love your dog and you will have a great friend for many years.

You're right, Sylvester is a bad example. Surly birds are dumber than cats, but Sylvester, well, there's one in every pack.

I dont have anything against cat but I'm not a cat lover I was a dog person and for me they are intellectual pet. They can be easily teach how to play tricks, and sometimes manners too plus they can show emotions too.
I might be biased to tell this but I have a dog in the house but no cat maybe it was not time for me to have one.
And besides my son really loves dog and my husband too.

Well, to be honest I'm a dog man myself, because they are faithful. However the SMART award I have to give to cats.
You throw a ball, and a dog will chase it, and if you're lucky bring it back to you, after hours of your time training it. Cats, however will just have a stretch and relax while they watch the stupid dog.
Your dog will sit when you command it to, your cat sits when it plrases.
You tell your dog when it's time to eat, your cat tells you.
I once had a German Shepherd and a Siamese cat. The cat could herd the dog right into its kennel and then tease it by positioning its tail over the opening to the kennel. As soon as the dog sniffed, the cat would attack it playfully with its paw. The cat was the boss.
I believe dogs make better pets, but cats are definitely smarter!
