in a small barrio located somewhere in a small province is a group of elderly women who works as "manggagapas" (dont know the english term,~___^) or someone who sows plants or remove grass... that is their job during ordinary days but when there is a wedding in that small barrio, these elderly women becomes "mascots" carrying male phalluses. it is a deep-rooted tradition that all of them have no malice when they parade the whole place carrying phalluses made of "puso ng saging" (again, dont know the exact english term) or corn, in different sizes, around their necks. of course, they would parade with the newlyweds and they are doing that to ask "whoever" for fertility so the newlyweds will be gifted with children (A.S.A.P.??) .. its the same kind of thing that children would do if is starting to rain, and that is draw a big smiling sun with irregular rays using chalk.... again, no malice for our LOLAS and barriofolks. but when a local show featured this "strange" tradition, some was surprised that such practice exists.. and as if they wanted to do something to change that practice.. and MTRCB also suspended the show for a week for airing such "inappropriate feature for a PG show"my opinion, that show should have advised the audience that the content might be misunderstood, especially by small children. that show is a documentary, it will and should show what it needs to air, regardless of whether it will be surprising to most conservative minds. and i believe they did just that. mtrcb should not have banned a documentary show that foretells filipino tradition from deep corners of the country. there are other "worthless, noneducational" shows they should be concerned with. but, the effort of doing something is somehow appreciated. ever since i've heard of such "practice", it made me realize how MANY more traditions that Pinoys are doing.. and just how rich, creative, resourceful and innocent pinoys are. there is really nothing wrong with walking around with a male phallus on your neck, isnt it? not unless you start your green mind working...

Hi! I think I know that show. I love the documentary actually, i am an avid fan of the show. What they actually presented is a Filipino tradition which I think is meant to be shared to everyone. The show is played late at night, so I think there is really no harm. It should be the responsibility of the parents to choose which shows are safe to watch by their kids, but then again considering the timeslot, minors should be asleep by that time. the show wasn't banned actually, it is still on air if we are referring to the same show.. hehe. or they chang the name..
