Was there a baby name you had to 'sacrifice' for others?

For instance, I liked Andreas but I knew it would be too 'foreign'. My husband liked Sage but I hated it so he had to give in. Were there names you really loved but had to leave off your list because you knew relatives or friends would be critical, or you were afraid your child would be teased?

I like Gabriel, but you can see where the other kids would go with that one. It wouldn't be very fair.

No.. I'd take the stance of it was my baby and if my family didn't like it they could go have their own.. it's your kid - your decision. What can they do about it? Not like it? Okay then...their loss.
I wouldnt name my kid something that would get it beat up..People who name their kid Apple or Moon just ask for trouble.

Yes! This happened to me with every name I picked out. Well at first I wanted a girl SO bad, that I must have picked out a hundred girl names, and maybe 10 boys names. Well wouldn't you know I had twin boys. So ALL of my girl names were sacrificed.
I liked the name Clementine, but a close friend of mine is obsessed with Eternal Sunshine... and so her myspace name is Tangerine/Clementine and she wants to name her daughter that someday... so that was out.
And most of my boys names my hubby vetoed *pout*. I LOVED the name Atticus, like from To Kill A Mockingbird but my Mom said it was "wacky". And my hubby said people would call him Atty and he didn't like that. Same thing for most of my other names.
When I was first pregnant, a girl gave me some advice. She told me "Don't tell anyone what you want to name the baby. Just keep it to yourself, name the baby what you want, and then when you tell people they won't care what the baby's name is because OOH A BABY!"
I should have listened!

My husband loved Nicolette.. I thought it sounded too much like Nicorette. (the gum that helps you quit smoking)(: We don't have a girl yet, but we won't be naming her that if we ever have one.(:

When my daughter was born, I was 19, and I had no idea what to name her, when she was taking the bottle at the hospital she did her mouth this cute little way and a nurse said she looked like a little bird, and that I should name her Robin, my sister said I better not, so I asked her to help and so she named her Valerie Jean. With my son, we didn't know what we were having, but we couldn't settle on a name, my husband wanted to name a boy Matthew, but I wasn't comfortable with that. When we were driving to the hospital, I gave in and said if it's a boy we'd name him Matthew Robert. With my third baby, my husband wanted to name the baby Ian Thomas if it was a boy, I couldn't decide if I liked it, but I decided to go along with it. My mother in law said, that she didn't care if it was a boy or girl she was going to call the baby Zach...so guess what?? We decided to name a boy Zachary, my husband wanted to give him a middle name after his best friend, and I wanted to give him my dads' name, so my son has 3 names, Zachary David Thomas (plus our last name).

I've always wanted to name a daughter "Tikvah". I read it in a book and fell in love with it. It means Treasure and I knew that I would treasure my daughter. Unfortunately, only my sister likes the name. My husband hated it and so did everyone else I tried it on.

I really loved the name Anij. (Pronounced Aneej) But both my first and second hubby hated it...my first hubby wanted any girl name he could butcher down to a boy name...(Alexandra;Alex, Samantha;Sam). I am fine with nic-names but why name a child something beautiful if you never plan on calling them that.
Plus now all my favorite names are trendy...5 years ago they werent as trendy...they are now...Like Sofia, Olivia..etc. My new hubby and I cant agree on ANY girl names and he wants to include his family names in our boys names...Like Richard and Frederick. I dont like either name...plus they dont go with our two first names we have picked out, Donovan and Celdyn.

When I was pregnant for some reason I just knew it was going to be a girl and never really thought of boys names.I also went through dozens of girls names and just wasn't sure, my mom wanted Tiffany but I didn't like it because it remind me of a lamp, I was ready a novel and two of the characters were Tiffany and Courtney...funny a name my mom wanted. The day my daughter was born and I looked at her and named her Courtney Ann she just looked like a Courtney.
