The Minnesota Socialist Movement is holding a protest parade in my hometown in Missouri this weekend. The city has organized a cultural diversity celebration in one of the local parks to counter this hate parade. My friends in the area have asked me to come down and go to the celebration. Several of my friends here (including my roommates) want to go with me. As do my nephews (13 & 11 years old). Now, two chapters of the Ku Klux Klan have decided to decend upon the town as well. I imagine there will be a lot of trouble from this. Between the Klan and the Neo-Nazis, I am wondering about riots. While I want to show my support, I'm not sure about taking my friends and family. We are all grad students majoring in either German or Russian Studies (or both). Some of them are German or Russian. I know that this really irritates them. Worse because it's my hometown. I'm not sure what I should do. Take my friends and family and hope nothing happens or go with a few people I know can take care of themselves and tell everyone else that they have to remain a safe distance away. What would you do?
