Just read this news on the paper:
Sixteen years after he was arrested and charged with robbing Rs 8, a man was acquitted by a sessions court in Mumbai on Wednesday. The order was passed in his favour because the court could not find enough evidence against him.
Acquitting Natwarlal Vaghela, sessions judge B M Jethani said, “The complaint against the accused might have been filed at the instance of the police.” The complainant was BEST employee Shantaram Lad, who had said he and his friend were robbed at knife point of Rs 8 and Rs 135 on the night of Nov 11, 1990.
Vaghela and his associate Harish Kapur were arrested. They were charged under Section 392 of the IPC for armed robbery. The trial was transferred to a sessions court in 1999, nine years after the case was registered.
The delay was because the accused had been granted bail and the case was not slated for hearing.
