Politicians and Accents

Recently I saw two speeches one by Hillary and one by Obama out of now where the two of them suddendly had a deep southern drawl. Quite frankly Hillary did such a bad drawl that it was on the verge of offensive. Then a few days later they were both speaking at a convention and all of the sudden they had a get down city feel to their talk. Does it really make you like a politician better because they have an accent or dialect like you or would you rather they just be truthful and talk the way they talk?
