Have you ever had to deal with your dog chewing on everything when you were gone somewhere?

My friends dog used to chew on everything, when she went to work. He literally chew a whole through the door. She decided to take the dog to the veterinarian and he told her that this behavior was caused by anxiety the dog felt when my friend left him. At the end my friend decided to leave her dog at doggie day care. He now doesn't chew on things he shouldn't

chewing is normal to dogs, specially puppies. when they are teething they would chew on almost anything. one thing you can do is buy him/her something else to chew on and keep your valuables away from him. put your shoes in their cabinet, etc. with regards to furnitures...hmmm, well, i guess u can chew-proof them like putting some foam or an efective way is rubbing hot sauce on those areas of the furniture he'd probable chew on. Another cause of chewing is anxiety (loneliness). Accdg to dog phychology. Once an owner leaves the dog, the dog would associate those things with the owner himself...most especially anything the owner has worn. The scent excites him, imagining that he's playing with his owner. for him, playing/chewing with your shoe/bag/shirt means playing with you.

Our little bundle of cuteness tends to not just chew on everything, but instead chews on only one thing in particular. Each time my other half & me have to head off to go grocery shopping, or go out for dinner together, or to just go window shopping together, etc.. There have been times where we had come back & the couch was ripped apart. She does this because she gets so upset with us for leaving her alone. Our dog is so used to us being home with her all of the time that.. When we end up leaving her alone she gets upset with us.. I think she feels by her chewing the couch it's away for her to get back at us. Or at least tell us that by us leaving her alone for an hour or even a few hours.. That she was not at all impressed by us doing this. She's getting better though & hasn't done this for a while.. But I know she tends to just bite our couch apart, only one in particular if we leave her alone for all to long in her mind. We've had to sew it back together & put a throw over top just so no one would notice quite honestly. In conclusion.. I am glad she only turns to chewing one thing.. Because if she chewed on a large amount of our other belongings I would become even more furious.. I know she is learning though to be on her own.. I just think she tends to get really upset sometimes if we do decide to leave her behind.. Sadly sometimes we do though.. I think she is so used to our company & us taking her along with her always that she dislikes when we have to leave her. I think she is breaking this habit. But only time will tell! . . Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

They only time I ever had to deal with that was when my dog was a puppy. They do it because they are teething. You might find it helpful to buy some dog toys, and some rawhide. This will give your dog something to chew on, that way maybe they will stop chewing on everything in your house. It is important that they have stuff to chew on because it helps keep their teeth strong.

YES, we came home one evening after work and saw that while we were gone, our huge Rott named Toro had chewed out most of the expensive leather couch. Bummer, but what could we do, we love the dog. He never did anything like that before and we always made sure he had chew bones to chew on. Hard to forget that day. The couch cost eleven hundred dollars and was a total loss, of course. We forgave Toro. Maybe he got lonely.
