Do you usually shop and use white sugar at home or whenever you needed to use some sugar? Or you prefer to use the brown sugar? Why so?
Well, for me I used to use white sugar every time I needed some. Like when I need to have a cup of coffee when I was yet in college where I need to burn my midnight candles especially when the exams were approaching, or when I needed to do some projects where I had to stay up late. There was also one time when my girlfriend was making some hot chocolate milk for us and I noticed her using the brown sugar. I asked her why she isn't using the white sugar...and I was pretty amazed by her answer, telling me that brown sugar is a lot healthier that the white ones...and she showed to me the research she got from the net about this one...
" One more noteworthy difference: a cup of brown sugar has slightly more calories than white, but it "also contains 187 milligrams of calcium, 56 of phosphorous, 4.8 of iron, 757 of potassium and 97 of sodium, compared to only scant traces of those nutrients found in granulated sugar." Sweet!
How does this appeal to you? please let me hear your views.. Godbless!

We typically use white sugar unless brown is specifically called for. I never knew the health differences. Great info!

I love the taste of brown sugar and my husband likes white, so I have to buy both. When I was a child I used to spread brown sugar on my bread and butter. It is really gorgeous and I must admit I still indulge in it. My family think it is disgusting, but they don't have to eat it so I will continue to disgust them. Thanks for all the interesting facts about the brown sugar.

I normally use "refined" or white sugar for my hot beverages wether it be coffee, tea, or choco. However, i also use brown sugar whenever necessary especially for cooking or baking purposes. So, it actually depends to which im gonna use it for. I agree with you that there are more health benefits that we can get from brown sugar over the refined one coz of the presence of more minerals over the latter. White sugar has undergone purification processes in the sugar refinery to make it more crystalline and bleach away the colorants in it. Some production plant even uses chemical bleaching or ion exchange methods to do that. It's actually the trace molasses content that gives the brown sugar its unique taste. Well, that is for sugar derived from sugarcane coz there are other raw materials also, such as beet. One thing is certain though... both white & brown sugar are sweet.

I knew brown sugar was healthier since it is not chemically treated like white sugar ( to make it white) The same applies to Rice, brown being healthier than the white ones. I have been using white sugar since long and can't think of replacing my daily use with brown sugar. I use it only when certain recipes call for brown sugar. Thanks for sharing the contents of brown sugar, pretty pleasing:)

Well Rogen_Andrei, for me I do prefer white sugar to brown, even if brown is the healthier option. It's simply that we consume more white than brown, be it in coffee or baking a cake! We seldom use brown, but if I'm in a restaurant for some reason, if the brown is there I use that.
At the end of the day, it's a choice thing. I someone asked me I would have to say, "White" not because it's better but it's our preference. And one other thing? I think brown sugar is more expensive :D
God Bless You also.

I prefer brown sugar because I heard that its more natural.Actually it's not healthy to eat any kind of sugar. It's so much healthier to get the glucose that our body needs from the fruits.

i use white sugar a lot in my daily life whereas the brown sugar i use normally for baking a cookie and steaming the cake. I personally think that brown sugar are less sweet while the white sugar is more sweet. I agree with you the the brown sugar more healthy than the white one this is because it is more less sweet but brings the same nutrient as the white sugar.

This is interesting, if there is such a thing as "heathier" sugar, lol. You can probably substitute brown sugar for white in a lot of things, but I'm not sure you could successfully do it in baking because of the difference in consistency.

i go for brown sugar, more health benefits than white sugar....so use brown sugar instead of white. it's like rice grains.... the red one or brown rice is more healthy than the traditional white grain.

well, your gf is right about what is in a brown sugar. you know it is better to used the brown sugar thatn the white sugar because white suger has a lot of process to do in order to become it white. so, in that there are chemicals mixed in order it to become white. not like the brown after the sugar cane procees until the juice of it out it will put it in dryer aand then thats the time that it become white
