Give Yourself An Ego Boost

One of the true joys of losing weight is this: Once you see a difference in your looks, the high will carry you along for weeks. Suddenly it becomes easy to refuse dessert and choose lighter foods instead, because you want to hold on to that terrific feeling that you're looking good. Okay, but what if you're not there yet? For a quick preview of the Vanity High (as we'll call it), spend a little time considering your wardrobe. Identify three or four outfits that make you look your best. Make a point of wearing them whenever you need a little extra motivation. When you let yourself slouch around in a baggy sweatshirt, you'll probably just wind up feeling depressed. On the other hand, look in the mirror and see a well-dressed person who looks pretty darned good, and you'll find yourself fired up to take those good looks to the next level

I want to lose weight but I don't know how to start. I have diabetes and it's gone bad because of the weight I have gained. Do you have any diet ideas I can start with?

thanks for sharing that. another one is if you have a favorite outfit that you no longer can fit in you should hang it on the outside of your closet door so you will see it often. it just might give the incentive to lose more weight to fit into that outfit.

What a wonderful thing for you to share this with everyone Kathy and yes, there are times when the clothes you are wearing make you feel so much better. It also makes sense because sometimes when you are feeling a little bit "down", then it is all too easy to grab the most casual thing you can find. That doesn't help the mood at all and although it might be comfortable, it is not the most attractive look. :) Actually I have only a couple of different styles of clothes because we are inclined to be a bit nomadic in our lifestyle. But I do have casual things for home, but always make an effort to be well presented when we are going out anywhere. It makes me feel better to know that I am looking my best, and for you the fact that you are losing weight will be that much better. Keep these tips coming Kathy, as they are an inspiration and they also show how people can actually feel better about themselves, just taking one small step at a time. You will reach your goal and with the positive thinking you have in place now, you will feel good all the way to your goal as well. Congratulations and thank you for sharing this little gem with the rest of us. :)

What a great idea, I am at that point, don't need to lose a lot but need a little motivation to make sure I don't get to where I do need to lose alot. I'm going to do this, no more spending day after day in my PJs or sweats.

Hey Kathy thanks so much for sharing that - it is too true! I know from experience that when I dress well I do feel better - it's just motivating yourself to do that sometimes! x

In the last couple of months I have lost 30lbs. I still have a way to go to hit my final goal weight. But in those 30lbs I have noticed SUCH a change. And I do wear "nice" clothes to make myself feel better and more confident. Its a great feeling when you feel you look good.
