So I am a survivor...

So they tell me. I don't feel like I "earned" the title though. I mean, yes i had cancer. It wasn't a big cancer, it was found, diagnosed and removed with in a 2 week period. One lady told me she is going to add me to her churches cancer survivor prayer list. I am glad, but it just doesn't seem like it is worth all the fuss. I remember being scared and numb when I was given the test results (BTW ladies, a yearly pap would not have found this, my pap was clean). I didn't want to be sick. Now here it is a week later, and Its like I had a flu. Folks keep patting me on the back (cyber, not off house recoup yet) and suddenly it dawns on me. Everyone is acting like "I" did this big thing. I survived cancer. Then I thnk of my brother, Dave, a semi famous musician. He had cancer too, last year, He survived, but he had to earn it. His cancer, called a pancoast tumor, a form of lung cancer had doctors begining discussions with things like: Well we may be able to let you keep your arm. We only have to take half your lung. You may regain some use of your hand. His cancer, only 3 of 5 people survive. (BTW congrats Dave on your first year cancer free! woot!) He has lost his career, but he meets it with gusto for life. As Dave says, "kid, I survived, everything else is bonus points."Compared to him, I had a picnic, a scary ride, but a picnic none the less.

well it's Ok I guess you did survive something. Most people like to lower your self esteem but these people didn't do that to you so I think good for you. I'm glad you and your brother survived that awful disease. My father didn't and my friend's father also didn't.

I am sorry for your loss. I lost my folks to stroke (mom) and heart attack(dad). It just seems so... odd to me that the label applies. I mean yes technically it does, but still, I didn't have a battle, I was blessed is all I can say!
