Cricket is a wasteful sport particularly for countries like India , Pakistan , Australia etc. where a huge population is crazy for it and it is one of the most time consuming sports . During the ensuing Worl Cup Series , we shall witness people in thiese coutries wasting hours together just to watch the matches and gossiping , betting on them . However , for India this episode is going to be less wasteful , because all the matches would be played during Indian nights . Otherwise , most of the Govt. Offices would deliver very little due to priority of cricket at office ours attributed by the officials from top to bottom . However whole night veiwrs will definitely attend office late and irregularly . Because , even for those who does know nothing about cricket , cricket becomes their life for these days at least .

Cricket is no worse than other sports. Look at the response football/soccer gets. Offices in Europe during World Cup were moving TVs in so their employees would not stay home or take extra long breaks to watch a match. Germany (the host country) was flooded by hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world. Americans haven't really jumped on the football/soccer bandwagon, but have the World Series to make up for it. Playoff matches for baseball are best out of seven games. The game is slow going with the possibility of extra innings. About half the games are held during working hours. People take off from work or take long lunches to watch the games. Besides, organized sports can be a unifier for a community, because the fans unite to cheer on teams. Differences go by the wayside as they gather together. Even if they don't know anything about the sport, it allows them to interact with their community.
