Grandmother prosecuted for growing cannabis!

March 10, 2007 4:16am CST
This made the national news here in the UK with the Granny in question appearing on the BBC morning news. She was growing cannabis in her wardrobe and using the herb in baked goods as a way of helping with her depression. Anyway, someone must have grassed her up and she was found guilty of growing cannabis and sentenced to 100+ hours of community service. On the BBC interview she stated her intention of continuing to grow cannabis for her own use... So are we jailing grannies now?? Has the government entirely lost the plot? (not pot) :)

the good thing is she didnt end up going to prison.an it shows that the goverment is not takeing care of the elderly an the elderly are doing whatever they can to survive.i have was given browines mixed with pot before an i didnt like the way it made me feel.i got really sick an was mad because they didnt tell me the bownies had pot in it.lol.."the goverment needs to help get medication to these people so they dont resort to other means.they need a free program for those who dont have insurance.

Maybe the brownies had to much herb in them. I have to admit that I've no practical experience here, but it's my understanding that using the herb in baked goods preserves more of the active THC than smoking it does.

Good point. I think that there is a case for providing cannabis for medicinal reasons like this.

Is it illegal in your country? Because thats cool that they just gave her community service. There is a medicinal use practice in the states, but I think for cancer patients only. It should be legal it harms no one.

It is illegal to grow even one plant here. It's not treated as a serious offence because she was growing it for her own use and not to supply to others. I believe though that there is a growing problem with criminal gangs though who run small hydro farms to produce the stuff for sale.
