Do you still use dial up?

I think I am spoiled. I am from a city and my internet connection is broadband. I am currently visiting a relative out of town, and all they have is dial up. I had gotten so used to using broadband, that I find I really do not have much patience for dial up. I think it is horribly slow. I feel sorry for anyone that has to use dial up to get their daily internet work done. Isn't there a dial up software program that "speeds up" the dial up connection? It seems like I have heard of such a thing, but would have no idea where to find it. Also, does it really even work? Does anyone still use dial up? Have you ever tried broadband? Which do you prefer?

I fix peoples computers for a hobby and I am always frustrated going back to dialup speeds. How did I ever manage without broadband!!
The speed up programs you mention are basically buffers as I understand it. They hold back the info and then squirt it out in one go so it seems quicker. I don't think they can get the data down the line any quicker.

That's what I thought too. Data can transfer at only so much speed anyhow. And data over a phone line which was really designed more for voice data than for document type data can still only be transferred at whatever the rate is. I could not understand how a software program could allow faster data transfer through the same line, unless the line itself had been amped up in some way. I don't know, the whole thing is a little confusing to me. I do know that I do not like dial up slow speeds though! lol

DSL has just came to our area and of course I had to have it! Now I dont how I ever got anything done with dial up. I think dial up is going to beome a thing of the past really soon. The problem with DSL in our area is that you can only get it if you are within 3 miles of the station. That is not vey many people that can access it. I am so lucky. I hated dial up

I'm on broadband too. I had a dial-up connection only for a little while, because it was very slow and very expensive. Not worth it. Now I have a fiber optic connection, but it's limited to about 512k during the day. still, better than 56k of what a modem can do. Plus, with dial-up, you can't do anything online, like see videos, listen to radio, or play online games ( because of the hudge lag ).
