It is very irritating that mylot does not allow cutting and pasting until you have reached 500. I compose most of my essays (primatily)on Science writing in microsoft word. I know they want to prevent spam and plagarism but at the same time they are not encouraging quality work by banning this. I don't wish to retype my entire essay into this text box. Sometiimes I'm lazy, yes. Also, since there is no spell checker or grammar checker on here there are many typos in the posts. Tell me what you think and what mylot may be able to do to promote uality posts and prevent spam.

Well I know in the begining I had this one person that was cutting and pasting the same exact thing to all of my discussions and it was some cute little poem and she got paid for it. Then what I hate also is how people with take a discussion topic look it up on the net and cut and paste it... expecially on the health issues and it was that doctors language you couldn't understand anyways. I didn't know that they were even allowing it if you were over 500 points? Well that is at least something. I wish they had spell check too but I believe they will soon enough. Really Mylot has come so far already. I don't think very many people would use it if mylot had it anyways because they wouldn't want to take the time to. They are more hear for money the ones that don't take the time to spell. Me... I'm just a bad speller, but I try.

I found out it takes a 500 after trying to copy the universal clock. I thought it would be an appropiate post . Where I'M at the time springs foward. It's free I wasn't quite sure what I was doing, which didn't matter because I didn't have a 500. A previous post the members where mentioning another member was posting by pasting and had done the same post several times. This may be why the stricter rules.

I am in agreement with you because I see no sense in allowing a member with 500 posts to cut and paste and not allowing the same benefit to a new member. Being a member for a while does not guarantee fair play, and being a new member does not suggest unfair play, so the comparison is totally invalid.
I often find Microsoft Word to be useful for composing a discussion. There is also the problem that when Mylot pages start to load slowly the page aborts, in which case I often copy the post before submitting so that I can paste it back if required.

they may have a good point at not allowing people to cut and paste until they reached 500. It's hard to monitor the activities of everyone in this forum and you'll never know who will bring in more troubles than good. Just hang in there and post more then you can do your copy paste thing when you reached the threshhold.

I think they want to make sure that you are a serious myloter and not some sort of spammer who is taking advantage of the cut and paste ability.
I am almost at 500 and I have only been at it one week, so just be patient and you will get there.
For now, don't worry so much about starting discussions. Respond to discussions instead and you will get to 500 faster and then you can cut and paste and start your own discussions.

It is supposed to help with the cheating but some people still cut and paste other peoples responses. But by the time someone gets to 500 myLot is probably hoping that the member has grown to wanting the site to remain fun and to lose all spammers.

As of this exact posting, I am only a few away from 500. I was irritated too at first, until I realized that it's also an honor to be able to cut and paste here. Kind of like a right of passage, and a reward for hard work. It's only fair that peeps that have posted over 500 get to cut and paste, since it does take a considerable amount of time to get to the 500 post mark. Although at first I didn't really like it, but I think it really is a good idea to keep out the riff raff. If people are really serious about being on mylot, they will continue to post to 500 to be able to cut and paste. :)

I personaly feel that 100 post is more than enough to establish someone as being legit. I think the 500 rule is crazy. I as well as my DH have both written up long post, just to have them not post and when you back page, they are entirely gone! Mylot really needs to reconsider their copy paste rule.

How would you feel about having your own work copied and pasted as another one's own? (unless they are cited) What you can do is read the supposed to be copied article, then put your own reaction. In that way, you would have your own article created. NOt only did you not copy the article but you were able to write a reaction.

I agree! I sat on an artical for almost a week because I wasn't going to retype it into a message! I like to post articals I see that I find interesting. I hope people will respond, but even if they don't I still know that some will get to see things they might not normally look at. I'm SOOOOO glad I'm over the 500 now!!!

There's 77,000 people on myLot right now. If spammers really want to use the cut and paste they are going to get their darn 500 and then do it anyway. I would have appreciated the cut and paste thing much sooner.
