DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME
Does your PC know the time?Saturday, March 10, 2007
Thanks to Congress, which decided Americans needed a little more sunshine in their lives, daylight-saving time begins three weeks early this year -- clocks will spring forward at 2 a.m. Sunday.
That means more sun for you, but it could create some headaches for computers. Experts warn that the change in how we mark time could cause technical problems in computerized systems like air-traffic control or railroads.
But for most of us, the biggest issue is updating our home computers. Here's what you need to know about that:
-- If your computer runs on Microsoft's new Vista operating system, you have nothing to worry about. The system knows about the change.
-- If you're running on Windows XP, Microsoft began sending out automatic updates to users about three weeks ago. If you log on to the Internet, your computer will fix itself. But make sure to allow automatic updates on your Internet settings.
-- If you're running on Apple OS X, that company also started sending out automatic fixes via Internet updates in January. Simply log on to the Internet and let your machine do the work.
-- If you're on an older version of Microsoft, including Windows 98, 98/ME, 2000, XP, NT and 2003, try this site to download a fix:

I still have the old Windows 98 and I get a message the first time I log on after daylight savings. It just prompts me to okay the time change which I do. There's never a problem so I don't think I'll have to do anything else.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure what to do about this problem if it didn't change automatically. I hope all the traffic controls are changed properly or that would be devestating. I will be very glad for the extra daylight because I never have enough time in the day to get all the yard work done I want to. Thanks

My computer automatically updates the time. I se XP.
I am sure other people will find your instructions very useful.

For all the hype I heard at schools and on tv about the time change and computers, I was expecting some problems.
I was sitting here staring at an article at what would have been 2am, only to realize the computer had added that pesky hour and it was actually 3am.
OH...the perversity of inanimate objects.
