I think he is doing well but he is not naturally talented leader. And so when there is a crisis I don't feel he is able to do a good motivation job. And this is where the former captain of India was very good. He had the special quality of motivating the players in such a way that he brought the extra bit of performance from each player which made the team very successful. And if you see properly that current Indian team is not very much different from the team which the former Indian captain had made. So what is the major change.

As a captain both have their pros and cons. I think Ganguly is the perfect captain when your team is in the dumps and is not performing and needs a energy and enthusiasm to build it. Ganguly with his guts and his arrogance can get any team out of that situation and the fact that he does not like to take anything lying down helps in that aspect.
As far as Dravid is concerned he is a good captain for a team that is workmanlike and is performing at a decent level. Dravid's style of leading by example and commitment is great for such teams. But, his restrained communication and lack of emotion would not stand him good against teams as mentioned for Ganguly.
Ganguly on the other hand is not great with teams that Dravid can handle as he is one who thrives on conflict and creating conflict and emotions.
Given these two background, I feel Ganguly is great captain for a team like India, where emotions play a major role, whereas Dravid would be a great captain for a workmanlike team of Australia or South Africa.
Cheers!
