I have been doing so well , gone down a dress size BUT , when I was answering discussions they all seemed to be about food lol ,( or am I obsessing?) maybe there weren't really any more than usual. The first two 2 I read were jimbos and they were both about food , So I thought the best thing to do would be write a discussion and take my mind off it . Did it work ? no! it didn't lol . so I am off to have a Cadburys LIGHT orange chocolate drink ,that will do me for a wee while , good luck to anyone else out there who are trying to eat healthy , xx

Four letters that spread dread amongst the population DIET it's a horrible word and the first three letters spell it out the worst! In my teens I used to diet, diet, diet! I was a chocoholic that was my problem and I hated not being able to eat chocolate, my weight ballooned, I don't drink or smoke but I did like my food, a lot of it was comfort eating. And yes when I was on a diet (I was never off one!) I would see food, think food, it was like food paranoia.. I would lose 7lb then put 10lb on! Even looking at a piece of chocolate and I would put on weight. Now though, because I go to the gym 5 times a week, and exercise 90 minutes every day I don't need to diet, I can eat as I please now thankfully because I can burn the fat off! Everything in moderation. Diets, well for me DON'T work. Good luck my friend and I try not to start any food related topics ;0)

What is a Cadbury's light orange chocolate drink, that sounds very good...you have started me drooling, again. I think it is the power of suggestion and we just know we can't have it, therefore we want it. Congratulations on being down a dress size, that is a major accomplishments.

no wonder they had the forbidden fruit...it is difficult to keep off a thing for even a day when u dont have a choice. i went on a diet for a week once and i felt like each day was so long, it would just not end and i would only think of food. i remember it was terrible. i have never done that again. if i have a lot of sweets someday i skip a meal , usually dinner, to compensate..

It is just because it is off limits and you know it. You just keep wanting it because you can't have it.

i know what you mean, i tried doing that even if it was just to go down one size, but i found myself thinking of food or going to the fridge all the time.i try and think of other things and it makes me think of food even more. i just tried cutting some out, not all of it, and replacing some of my soft drink with water. - im trying but not going to well.

I eat healthy Sunday to Thursday.....salads,fruit,veggies.....but Friday to Saturday...get it,2 days a week,I eat what I want and to hell with the rest....potato chips, popcorn, fatty meats, whatever, but between the dieting and workouts,it works.....I'm losing weight and feeling so much better.....I even do the 'supper' for breakfast plan and it works wonders....

I would have to say that you are usually denying yourself those things. When you do that you begin to obsess over them. I don't deny myself much when I am trying to lose weight. I eat everything I normally would but the "naughty" things I eat very small amounts of. I have a sweet tooth. So lately I have been baking and doing other things to satisfy my sweet tooth. This way I can control the recipe. As I am typing this, I am enjoying a wonderfully moist, dense, non fat banana bread. I reduced some of the sugar by replacing part of it with Equal. I bumped up the nutrition by replacing almost a cup of flour with a combo of wheat bran, wheat germ, and ground flaxseed. I also replace part of the white flour with whole wheat. I have two packages of cookies (or I think you call them biscuits) in the cabinet and I honestly enjoy the banana bread more. You can enjoy all your favorites and still mind your weight!

Because your body isn't use to not having those foods, and you miss, them and therefore crave them. It makes it hard, because it is so much easier to lose weight when you don't crave them.

Well it is really hard to slim down and much easier to gain weight. I have lost weight when i took some pills and it curved my appetite, but i gained back the weight i lost after two months.

As others have stated, this phenomenon has much to do with the fact that we usually want what we can't have. Once something is off limits to us, we desire it that much more. I have always run into this problem when trying to lose weight and usually ended up eating more and failing because of it. I find that when I take a less strict approach and try not to focus all of my energy on losing weight, I am actually more successful. It is a hard balance to find - you want to focus enough energy on your weight loss that you make good food choices and exercise, but not so much that food and your weight becomes all you think about. Try to practice portion control and don't feel that you have to give up on all the foods you love. You can still have pizza, just don't eat the whole thing! If you really want to lose weight and keep it off, you need to make lifestyle changes. Unless you plan on eating carrot sticks and celery for your entire life, you need to create a diet plan that involves the foods you like as well, but simply learn how to eat them in moderation. As you may already know, you should eat 5 smaller meals throughout the day, rather than 2 or 3 larger ones. Eat a sizable breakfast, lunch and dinner and have 2 smaller snacks throughout the day, so that you are eating every 3-4 hours. This keeps your metabolism in high gear and keeps you from feeling like you are starving yourself. Finally, don't keep tempting foods in the house - if they're convenient to you, you're bound to over-indulge in a moment of weakness. I know I'm rambling on, but I hope this helps. Stick with it and allow yourself an indulgence or two and you will continue to enjoy results!

Wow...do I know what you mean. Recently..I lost some weight and I was happy too..however now I am scared I will just put it back on...I always want to snack too...I think the key is what you eat and how much you eat that counts. Everything in moderation...is the key...

Because you're doing a change in your life that's about that. Like if I were to stop watching TV I would be obsessed for it.

That's so great, weemam, that you're doing well! Congratulations :) I've been on lots of different plans over the years and I agree completely that you inevitably find yourself thinking of food! Right now, I'm on Phase I of the South Beach Diet, courtesy of a work colleague who was so gracious as to purchase the book for me and have it sent right to my front door. She's lovely. In any case, I have to admit -- it's the first time I've followed a plan and not felt hungry. Because of that, I really think much less about food, in general. I believe we think about it more if we feel that we're being denied enough to eat or feeling constantly hungry. Because this plan encourages you to eat until you're satisfied (just making sure you're selecting the right kinds of foods), you don't end up with that "I wish there were a little more" syndrome. Phase I is called "the tough weeks" for this plan and I am truthfully not having a hard time with it at all (and it IS tough in the way that you can't have bread, pasta, rice, starchy vegetables or any fruit for the first two weeks -- just to give some examples). Sure, I'd love a nice plate of pasta for dinner one night but, when I see some of the positive signs, I'm not inclined to want to "cheat" at all :) Good luck to you too, weemam! You can do it!!!

You always want what tou can't have and then you imagine what different foods you would like to have or you are hungry and that triggers your brain to think of food.

Thank you weemam...NOT!! LOL. I've been reading your recipes and practically drooling. I had some leftover roast chicken so I whipped up some coleslaw and made a sandwich (one of my favourite fillings). I was STILL hungry so I've been thinking and thinking to try and get my mind off it and now I'm sitting here eating a banana and peanut butter sandwich and you come along and talk about losing weight. Life just isn't fair sometimes...lol.

Oh, honey, this grabbed me! I have lost some pounds and am tickled with fitting into things I haven't worn in years or new things in smaller sizes. BUT - all I think about is food! It is just natural I think. Those old habits are hard to break and deep inside some of us, we really don't want to give up food, we just want to magically get thinner. Hang in there, if you don't lose - you are still a wonderful and obviously intelligent person and I am popping my last Tootsie Roll!
