I have 2 dead laptops (and a third, this one which is only working) . One is HP , when I turn it on, fan and lamps go on, but nothing else ( I tried external screen but nothing) Other is Acer Travelmate (older) , and it's totally dead. No fan, no lamps , nothing. Only thing that is working is a lamp on AC/DC adapter. I tried turn on both with : battery, with adapter, with adapter+battery. On Acer I even removed CMOS battery for 2 hours, nothing. PLEASE HELP ME, I would be very gracefull. If I can't repair them , for what else could I use parts ?

Problem seems to be critical..a thorough check of the two laptop is a must.Better to give to technician if you don't have any idea of computer repairs.

i think there would be some problem in your internal circuits... you could give your laptop for repairs,.. if its something small then they would be able to repair it off... most of the time it will be dust gathered inside,. sometimes it could be also motherboard..

I once ported my HP (thatone which fans and lamps are working) to some electronic-man, he looked it with V-meter etC., he said that it must be a motherboard (3 MOSFET transistor chips) but I think he wasn't sure about it in his head...

Taking laptops apart is not as easy as a desktop. Usually the only things easily accessable are the hard drive and the RAM slots. The HP laptop. Try taking out the hard drive and put it in another laptop to see if it will boot. You can also buy a 2" to 31/2" IDE adaptor to put a laptop hard drive into a desktop PC. If it tries to boot then your mobo or memory may be at fault. It may not boot fully because the drivers will be different but you may get a 'safe mode' boot. Remove the RAM chip and push it back in - sometimes they shake loose. The Acer laptop. Remove the RAM chip and re-seat it. If that doesn't work then chuck it. In both cases, if they are goners then give them away if you can. The cost of repairing them can be more than they are worth and most of the components will be outdated and worthless. This one of the reasons I say to people get a desktop rather than a laptop if the way you use a computer means you can have either. A desktop can be repaired more easily. If you have to have a laptop then get insurance cover for it with a 'replacement' policy. Most business people replace their laptops every two years or so this way. The premium is expensive but it is the easy way.

I think that you can proberly sell them for parts maybe to someone that builds computers. I'm not really sure though.
