yesterday about a Muslim women getting raped. Beside really punishing the men who done it, which were several. They are going to give the women 90 lashes. I don't know how a women could survive that many lashes after what she had just went through.
How come they do not value women over their? They think it is a disgrace to the family to loose you viginity before marriage, even if it is not their fault. Waht is your commits on this?

Oh God,she suffers the rape and is being lashed too?! What kind of justice system is that? It is really not fair that women are so ill treated in that part of the world. Some Muslims are very orthodox and don't care for their women. I have a few Muslim friends too, and their families are not like that. They are very good friends and respect their religion. It is beyond me why some don't change and accept women in today's world.

Less technologicaly advanced countries still base the majority of their values on their religion. It's just unfortunate that this religion places a higher value on their livestock than their women. It makes me very thankful that I live in a country where these kind of things don't happen, poor woman.

That muslim woman who have been raped and got punishing too from her rapists is such a horrible and disgrace for any woman in the world because she too is a human being with heart and mind. I am glad I am not born in countries where they do not value their women.

I really feel for that poor woman. She is in no way to blame for what happened to her and yet she is the one who has to be punished. I am so grateful that I wasn't born in a Muslim country, I really couldn't imagine living such a restricted, inferior life. Men and women are equals and should be treated as such.

This is something I hope Amnesty International get into.
Despite the fact that we should respect other people's culture, any situation that not only beliitles women, but actually commits a crime against them, simply for being a women, is very wrong.
We should all campaign against this atrocity.

This is a very frustating question because there is nothing we can do about it.
I have heard several stories on myLot in the last few weeks about women being rape in India.
Apparently in India... the woman is forced to marry her rapist. Just as bad as the 90 lashes if you ask me.
The Muslims keep telling us what a wonderful religion they have. But I am not convince.
Between the treatment of their women and terrorists blowing themselve up in the name of Allah...
My conclusion is that Muslims are barbarians.

This is one of my peeves about countries and religions that allow this to happen. Most of the time the woman was doing absolutely nothing wrong. I've heard stories that say that a male relative can execute a woman for being raped. I don't see the logic in this.

Basically, they are going to kill her. And man can run free. I am speechless. I always thank god for not being born in Muslim country.

This is probably why America interferes in other countries affairs. This is absolutely a DISGRACE, this women did nothing wrong and as far as I'm concerned has suffered enough. The people of this country should be ashamed of themselves to allow this to happen.
A persons life is more important than ANYTHING!!! I truly can't believe that this still exists with as far as we have come over the years. I'm disgusted, I truly have no words to say how angry I am after reading this discussion, no I hadn't heard about this on the news. Most likely because I only watch the news about 1 a week or so because of stuff like this.
Anyways my 2 cents worth as always. I won't apologize for anyone that I may have offended on this! :)

I don't think being Muslim has any bearing on the part of getting raped or the horrible incident that happened after that. It all depends on where you are living not what religion you are practicing. Many of the better faiths like the one a lot of your responders are glad to be part of have committed and are still do practices which most people condone. I am from India. I see a lot of incidents which are committed in the name of dowry and things like that. Besides I don't think a person was blessed before hand to be born in the country of their liking. If you think that you are may be you consider the countless children suffering in various parts of the world were put there by God deliberately for punishment. Regards

I'm not really sure but maybe the 90 lashes is for cleansing and repurification of her soul or if it was truly for punishment, maybe the assault on her was provoked. Nevertheless, we non-Muslims must be careful on dishing out comments like this because some things appear to be what they are not. Especially when we ourselves don't really understand.

Hang on Pelo, when is it ever right to punish the victim? And yes we should speak out, sufficient for evil to triumph that good men do nought.
We should all be protesting vigorously about this

Do not be quick to pass judgement, you have to consider the culture and religious believes of that region. Different cultures and religious believes have different ways in which they react to matters similar to all.
Take India for example, hope I don't offend any Indian nationals out there, a 3 year old boy was caught stealing something of low value from a local provision shop. The village head actually ordered that the boy have his left hand crush by having a car run over it.
To the First and Second world countries, this is very cruel. And thus, judgement is passed on these people that they are uneducated. What if I tell you that this happened in the city? What then would you think?
So before we make any judgement, let's consider the cultural and religious believes of the region in question. Just like you don't want someone to pass judgement on you to be a gay, just because you're helping a handicapped friend into a toilet cubicle.

What rot! Some wrongs transcend cultural boundaries, when is it ever right to blame the victim. In fact, those that don't condemn this are guilty by association,

I feel for this woman and support your stance. The one thing everyone needs to remember though is that this is in a different country, that has a different set of values. People who hail from other countries may not have the same belief systems or morals as other countries. Do you remember the American who was caned in indonesia for breaking one of their laws? The US tried to step in and help him, but the country refused saying that he'd broken their law and her would recieve the traditional punishment for their country. I totally agree that no woman should have to go through such an ordeal, and I believe it's wrong, but we can't change the belief systems of other countries.

I should say that this kind of a treatment is totally absurd. What exactly is the woman's fault in this thing? I mean, why beat her up. I doubt that she did not resist the rape. I highly doubt it. Anyway, hopefully, things are going to be quick, and for the better, than the worse!

A total disgrace, these people are barbaric as are those people that make excuses for them, including those saying things like, well different rules for different cultures; some wrongs transcend cultural boundaries

This woman is being victimized for no fault of her, which is very unfortunate. This is what is happening in some arab countries.

A woman is to be whipped ninety times for being raped! Wow! is that extreme or what?! Just how illogical and inhumane could some people get still remains a mystery even up to now.. When these kind of people say they'd go medieval on your butt, they really mean it (LOL!). Oh please give her a break, it doesn't matter if they believe this or that BS but the fact that she is going to get punished for something that she could have done nothing to prevent and for the possibility that she would most probably die in that torturous process is rather unsettling and infuriating. Okay, let's just IMAGINE! for a second that it is a widely acceptable norm to punish rape victims around the world, but 90 LASHES! GEEZ! First off, it's INHUMANE! Second, that is a woman we are talking about! They are supposed to be LOVED and CARED FOR!! not LYNCHED!!.. Sometimes we could only wonder on what's going on with these people's mind as if they are deriving joy and pleasure from the pain and suffering of others.. hellish!
P.S. I don't hate Muslims, I just despise/hate/dislike "people" who do those kinds of acts especially against women and children!...
