Airlines require a health certificate from your veterinarian issued within 10 days of departure. If the veterinarian prescribes a mild sedateive for our pet before travel, be sure to test the dosage before leaving.http://www.bringyourpet.com/
This site will show you around the world where the pet friendly hotels are. Events, part, restaurants, tips, news and links.
Have fun with your pet and see how well they take to traveling.

I used to take my cat in the car, never on public transport.
I was teaching in a small county town, and whenever I wanted to visit my family, which was a 2 1/2 hour drive away, I would take my cat.
At first I would put him in a cat cage, sedated with a whole tablet. I found that this knocked him out copletely, which I wasn't happy with. Next time I tried half a sedative, and this worked really well.
Eventually I took to letting my cat loose in the car, not in the cage.
He used to sleep draped around my neck. Sometimes he would stretch out on the back window sill.
He became very used to travelling in a car.

We had a couple of cats that were good travels. One liked the semis that would rumble by. It was funny. Thanks for responding to this discussion.

This is some great information. I have never flow myself and really dont plan on it but I did not know that airlines require a health certificate either. That is a good rule. We always travel with our pets but we drive our own vehicle. It is hard to travel on the road for 12 or so hours with a pet. I am amazed at how good my puppy travels. He never complains

Now you have a list of hotels and restaurants that will accept your puppy. Might prove to be interesting. Good luck with this and thanks for responding.

We'll take them in the car just about anywhere, and love to take them hiking and camping with us. I do NOT and will NOT put my pets on a plane. I had to do ti once with my smaller dog and he was miserable. There is no way I woud do it with my 120 pound german shepherd who has bad knees.
It's a very BAD idea to tranquilize your dog for flying. They may be so sedated they can not brace themselves and can end up getting bruised and injured during the flight. Its just miserable for them.

When we travel, we go by RV, so they always come with us.

Thanks for the link.
I have never contemplated taking my dogs oversea's, and probably never will unless I emigrate again, which is very unlikely.
I have taken my dogs on holiday though, it was a 7-8 hour drive to the place I was going. I thought it might be stressful for them, but they were fine. I just stopped every 1-2 hours to let them stretch their legs and mine too of course. I took plenty of water and titbits for them too. For the most part they slept and the other parts they were busy looking out of the windows at all the different things going by.
I would be very stressed taking my dogs on a airplane, not to mention how stressed they would be too even with medication.

I can imagine. This site also has hotels and that was my excitement and the restuarants. Nice to include our canine friends when a sitter just won't do. So many people do travel with a pet and finding a place to stay would be highly important. Thanks for responding.

hi my friend. I have a pet, a yorkshire terrier, that i love, it has been also a good companion for my journeys by car i have done in the south of Italy where is the village of my wife,i dam scared of flying so we have not been in any airplane but just by car. My travel are hard, about 7-800 kimoleters, he is quite strong he needs just to stop sometimes to have a little water, he doesn't disturb me at all, i like to travel with him the time to spend in a car is less boring with him ( or it)

Nah i don't travel with my pets. It is just kind of smelly when they start pooping and then they just start freaking out. Also when i go on an aeroplane i'm not going to spend around two hundred dollars getting them to the contry i am going to!

I like to travel with my pets if it is going to be a long holiday. Many B and B's in the UK and Ireland have rooms for people who have brought their digs with them. I have also flown my pets but I don't believe in giving them sedatives. I was otld it makes it harder for them to maintain their body temperatures.
