Yes I do think it is art. I have seen a lot in NYC when I visit and I am amazed by the talent of the artist

Depends on the type of grafiti. The 'Jim was ere' stuff is not very impressive or original. But there are some very good graffiti artists around, and some do actually get paid for it. In Plmyouth where i lived last year they were paying people to do pieces in underpasses and tunnels etc around the city to make them look nicer. Worked quite well, some of these people are very talented

I do think it is art as long as it is done in an appropriate place. For example, I saw graffiti on the side of a grocery store today. It wasn't the best graffiti, but it wasn't just scribble either. But either way, it looked HORRIBLE smeared all over the side of a grocery store building. I agree, if these people would do their art legally they may be able to make some money, and also it would be more appreciated. Because of the fact that these guys (and girls) decide to do their art wherever they want to (private property), that makes most people look down upon it.

I think grafitti can be a form of art. Sometimes shops or people will donate sections of their walls and fences and allow the artists to work at their own pace and there can be some incredible results! That is art. I mean, have you ever tried to operate a can of that stuff? I can barely manage to cover a flat shelf without making a mess of it!
I don't think the quick tag of 'Borg' ot 'Up the IRA' is exactly art. That smacks more of littering, defacing public property, and vandalism.

graffiti can be art if it is actually well done and not just a bunch of scribbling. Where I live, the city of montreal employs people to do graffitti art on some buildings and billboards, it can be quite lovely. Some people think it beautifies the city and some don't of course.

As a new mylotter, i digged this topic.
It is art, some of it a really good with talent design and great style. Actually, only the same style or similar level graffitis can be accepted in a special graffiti area. It is ashame to plot rubbish among other's nice work.
