Although sydney is a nice place, its public transport is dreadful.
Train system is not up to scratch and numbers of trains are being delayed, the photo below shows a train which you usually see in sydney, there is no air condition inside, imagine how you will be like in a hot summer. As trains are hardly getting on time, less and less people use the trains now even there is slight improvement.
Bus is no better than the train, they never run on time.
Imagine how can a modern city with such awful transport??
How about your countries? Do you use public transport ?
How is it??

Hey! what happened? I thought that after the Olympics you would have been left with a really good transit system.
Did something happen to make it bad since then?
We had the 88 winter Olympics here and we still have the same transit system and it grows every year.

SORRY, i do not know why the photo did not appear. You cannot see how thre train is like..
It is getting better after the olympic, there are some new trains with air condition running, but it is of small percentage.
I think this situation is fully due to ineffective management of the corporation

I guess it is a better place than Bangalore.... Although Bangalore has many no of private and non-private organizaions providing transports, it is very much aweful getting the right transport on the right time... N speaking of the AC's there are some new olvo buses introduced that have special AC's running through them.....

Here in the philippines, riding a 'jeepney' is one of the unique means of transportaion that we have here. Jeepneys are the closest national symbol of us filipinos, a unique example of filipino ingenuity and optimism.
No matter how shabby and beat-up it may be, it is still dependable for most of us commuters who don't own any vehicle. With the pollution and traffic, we still amnage to cope up with it!;)

Let me take you on a ride to India.
The home for relations and sentiments. People here rarely use private transport for the expenses that are incurred by the transport doesn't get covered by their income.
So they are compelled to use public transport. Coming to trains. Leave about talking about them being Air Conditioned they are not even properly ventilated or closed or any sort of facility. The time is again the same old punctuality called Indian Standard Time as everyone refers to be late as IST. So are the trains they never reach the destination in right time.
Coming to bus. Normally a bus should carry only a maximum of about 45 people at any time both seating and standing. But if the transport would run that way then it would have to close the company and so they have only one option and that is let as many people as they can fit into even if it is packed without an inch gap between each other. There are days when i have travelled in bus which housed more than 200 people at the same time.
But it is true india. Everyone wants to travel faster and cheaper in the available resources. Though it is poor there are very rich filthy big fat peopl who are never bothered about these suffering people.

Our MRT and LRT2 are not that bad, they have good air conditioning and are fairly new. There are a number of good buses, but there are also a lot in bad condition. They come in bundles and don't have scheduled trips like in Sidney so you could just choose which bus you feel you would be comfortable riding.
The problem really is RUSH HOUR..., riding our mass transit systems during peak hours is like getting a workout. You have to push and pull and fight your way through the crowd. At least its faster because if you decide to take the bus, you'll be caught up in heavy traffic.

I always use public transport when I go to work. I keep my car at home as parking in the city hurts my wallet. There are plenty of trams here in Melbourne and it's convenient. Trains are worst not arriving on time. Several trains were having issues with braking, so it makes all commuters have to cramp themselves in the train. So far I'm quite happy traveling by public transport.

Hi, I'm replying to your question from Singapore. Singapore has the most awesome public transportation system!! Well, the country is pretty small, too, but the transportation is so much convenient! You can go everywhere, anywhere by MRT (subway system) or buses. Plus, they are in general clean, so you don't have to worry. =) The price is fair, too.. Basically, Singapore has the best public transportation system ever!! =)

I love the transit system in Chattanooga Tennessee. The buses are clean, on time, heated and cooled, and the drivers are very knowledgeable. The buses are up-to-date with hybrids and electric buses.

We don't own a car so we have no choice but to use public transport. I don't mind it at all and the metro and buses usually run pretty much on time. If there are problems then they usually announce it or put out signs. During peak hours its ridiculous though, with lots of people trying to cram into a carriage, but luckily I don't ride the train during peak hours. Oh by the way i live in Virginia, USA.

Iam residing in Chennai- a metro city in India , i used to tavel by bus maintained by our government which is teh worst means of transport here. The city is flooded with population and the buses running here are very scarce. So people get into crowded buses and travel in a packed condition to reach their places. But as far as train is concerned ,one of the comfortable and cheapest means of transport here all over India.we have lot of frequency every 10 minutes and travelling time is also very short.

My hometown is a small city , then in my hometown there is not any public transport , we are no trains but just have some personal bus without air condition. And the bus never run on time . If we want to out we just run by bike or by motorcicle .

If I just want to go somewhere locally, then I always use my car. Whenever I want to go into the cities, I will use the bus as they are a lot faster. There is a special bus lane and the buses are all air conditioned now, so the journey is pretty comfortable. It is just a pity that they are so expensive, but then, so is the charge for parking a car in the car park.

well, i live in Melbourne and its not much different to Sydney as i would imagine. but i use to take public transport and most of the time it was good. the trains were on time and clean. but there are those at friday and saturday nights that were just ridiculous. drunks everywhere and the trains are sometimes half an hour late. but you get that. i dont blame them. besides it is friday and saturday nights.

The only problem we have in my area is the lack of enough public transportation. You can get it in the big cities, but nowhere in the suburbs. We need public transport in other smaller cities as well.
