Do You take Your Pets with You?

Dog In Car - Do your pets ride with you?

Do you take your pets in the car with you? If yes where do you take them? If not why don't you take them? I ask this because I see alot of dogs in cars at the mall, Walmart, etc... and I wondered how many people actually take there pets everywhere and why. Since they are only going to sit in the car. Is it because they just love to go? I only have lizards and cats and neither of them are to fond of riding in the car. I have taken my cat to the drive-thru once but all she did was growl at the person that asked for the money:)

My 2 baby girls go with me to most places, when its not to hot or to cold outside. They love being in the car and going for a drive.. My picture is of one of my baby girls.. Buttons is almost 7 and Madison is a year old..

We like to take our dog with us to PetSmart so he can walk around and get a chance to interact with other people and dogs. Sometimes I will take him when I run to the store for something, because he really likes to ride in the car and be with us. I only do it if it is not warm out, though, because I'm afraid he will get too hot in the car. I never leave him for long, either.

He doesn't really mind the vet except for getting his temperature taken, that freaks him out a little!

My dog does not like to ride. She associates it with going to vet and begins to shake as soon as she enters the car. I had a pekinese once that loved to ride. He got out of the fence one day and I could not find him anywhere, he was riding around with the dog catcher. after that day the dog catcher came by to rewuest my dog to ride with him, because he was such a good companion. lol

My Bussy - Buster loves the snow!
I only take my Buster in the car for a short drive as he loves the car. I will take him when I go to pick up my wife or when I go visit my daughter and grandchildren. I do not take him with me if I stop anywhere and it requires him staying inside the car. I can not nor will I ever leave my pet in a vehicle more than a few minutes. Thanks for this discussion. This pic is Buster playing in the snow 2 weeks ago or so. Look how sweet he is. Hee hee hee. It's supposed to say "Buddy" not Bussy. Can't edit that after uploading the pic Grrr. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!

I have a small Min-Pin. He loves to come in the car with us. He is always with us. He doesn't like to be alone. I think dogs are much different than cats in this way because cats are so independant. They like being around us when they want our attention, but dogs become part of our pack or our family for us humans (so they think anyway), and they feel the need to be with us. Our dog thinks he's one of us, I swear. LOL I don't mind bringing him with us. He looks so sad when we don't. He runs in his bed and is very depressed. :-( I love having him around. He makes us laugh.

I agree with you that the cats are more independant. My cat still greets me at the door though, but when it is time for bed I usually have to call her into the bed. She has already fallen asleep somewhere else.

I usually take my dog (Boxer) with me whenever I can. If I am going to be inside somewhere for an extended period of time where he is not welcome, then I leave him home. I bring him because he loves to be in the car. He enjoys the wind on his face, the movement around him, and the rocking of the car. He wags his tail the entire time and when we get home, he is usually tired and goes to sleep. When he can get out and go with me when we reach our destination, he can't wait to run back to the car for the ride home...who am I to deprive him of that pleasure

There have been a few times that i have taken my dog with me on an outing where she ended up waiting in the car only because when I was trying to leave she snuck out behind me, jumped into the car and sat there "smiling" at me waiting to go along! I can't say no when she is looking at me the way she does sometimes. Whenever we go to a park or to someones house who we know she is welcome at or any short trip we will always bring her along because she just loves going along with us. Plus she needs to get out and do stuff. She hates being alone at the house. Whenever we leave her at home we have to lock her in her cage because she will pee all over everything and tear things up when we leave her out. We have learned that that is the behavior of seperation anxiety. Even when I go by myself somewhere and leave the rest of the family she wants to go along. I will allow her if it is a short trip or if she hasn't been out in a while.

I have three dogs and I prefer to leave them at home. They don't particulary like being in the car, as whenever I have to take them to the vet, they will refuse to get into the car and then they whimper for the whole journey. If I am going to the beach in the summertime, I sometimes take them with me as they like the water.

I take my pet with me only if I know he can get out with me, like if i go to the pet store, the vet, a park, drive through etc. My puppy loves being in the car, especially if he can pop his head out the window.

AWW! Puppies are so cute! If they stayed puppies I would get a dog. Here they give your dog treats at the bank and McDonalds! Must be nice to get a free treat :)

I used to take the dog for rides all the time, as long as I didn't have to leave her in the car. She only rides to the vet now, since the last time she rode with me to pick up my daughter, she had a few pooping "accidents" on every seat in my van, and the only place my daughter could sit was in the very back of the van. It took me 4 hours to clean off the seats, and I decided then she won't be riding with me anymore, until she goes to the vet. She barks and whines the whole time anyway...lol :)

I have travelled extensively with both of my dogs. One of them has gone all the way to Guatemala with me! They are very used to being in the car, camping, etc. because of our travels, and they LOVE it. I don't take them everywhere by any means, nor do they expect to go.. but sometimes I'll take one or the other for a quick ride just to let them get out of the house for fifteen or twenty minutes while I run a quick errand. I think they enjoy the car ride and they know if both of them aren't going then it usually means we aren't headed to the lake or the park or anything. Sometimes I'll start talking on my phone when my husband and i are in the car and I'll just stay in the car after we get home to finish my conversation. My husband always lets the beagle out of the house and I open the door for her to let her in, just because she loves to sit with me in the car... just sit there. It's like an extended, moving piece of her territory or something, and she just loves it!

I used to take my dog along with me if I'd go to my parents house. But that was when he was a puppy and a lot smaller. I never took him if I went to the stroe. I don't like to go to the store and see someone leave their dog in the car for who knows how long.

My cat freaks out when she gets in the car. She thinks Im taking her to the vet - she doesnt like that. So she doesnt get to go places. :) It would be fun to carry her around in stores in my purse though

It depends on the animal. I have taken my cats on commutes between houses (for the weekend), and they really didn't care for the drive. I had a pet bunny I used to take in the car and she enjoyed it and other cars would get a kick out of seeing her in the back window. One dog loves the car and wants to go everywhere, the other hates it and it is a struggle to get him in the door.

i cannot take one of my doggies anywhere, she gets car sick and throws up all over the place. I used to take her to the vet but then i had to clean my car out afterwards and it used to smell for a couple of days sometimes. Now i just call the vet at home and never take her anywhere. But my other dogs just love car rides and i generally take them to the beach. They are not very social with other animals so i never take them to public places. However they do love people (although 1 does not).

When I lived in the States, my dogs went everywhere with me. When I lived in Georgia, I took my girls (German Shepherds) with me to go shopping at the corner store. The neighborhood wasn't too great. Having 2 German Shepherds sitting in the front seat of my car, kept all the riff raff away. No one approached the car at all. At times I had to leave the engine running or it wouldn't start again. Tupi sat in the drivers' seat giving everyone the evil eye. Donner (her daughter) sat in the passenger seat. There was no room for intruders! When I moved to Alaska, I took Amani with me everywhere. He would lay down in the back seat and go to sleep. When I came out of the store, we would go for a hike. A lot of times, we would go hiking first and then go grocery shopping. The windows were always let down enough so that he could get some air. I never left him in the car if it was hot out. Amani just loved going for a ride. He gave me great company and his reward were great long hikes in the woods.

When I had cats, I couldn't take them in the car with me, but I take my rabbit and my dog with me every once in a while. We just take her over to our friends' homes and through drive thrus at the bank and to get food.

I would love to take my dog with me sometimes to places but she gets car sick horribly not fun. As in she will barf no matter what if she ate or not! Its gross! But I would only take her if she was going in with me someplace. I'd never want to leave in her the car someone could try to take her or she could get sick from the heat if its hot out, etc. So yeah. But my dog hates to be alone at home, so I wish most of the time I could take her with me more often then I do.

Our dog loves the car. We will only take him on certain conditions. We live in an area that has both extreme temps. So if its too hot or too cold he stays home. Add to that he can only come if we know we are making a quick stop any long shopping and again he stays home. Everytime we've gone to the in-laws (2-3 hrs away) he comes with us. He's awesome in the car and definately love to stick his head out and sniff anything that passes by. And of course he loves the car if we are taking him to the dog park!
