Hello, I was wondering if anyone has ever been on bedrest while pregnant. There is a chance that I may be put on it with this pregnancy and was wondering what all you can do. Can you get up and take a shower and use the bathroom or do you have to stay in bed 24/7? What do you do with you kids while on it? My hubby is on call 24/7 and I stay at home with the girls. Any and all responses will be appreciated! Thank you!

I was on bedrest for a month and a half. I had to lay on my left side. My blood pressure was up and I was showing signs of toxemia. I was also in the hospital on bed rest for 6 days. I was able to get up and use the bathroom but that was about it. Do what the doc says, you want to have a healthy baby and not have complications. Everything turned out ok for me, my son is now a healthy 27 yr. old.

Toxemia is something you can get while pregnant, its very rare and very dangerous. The baby and the mother can die, that doesn't happen that often because they always watch for symptoms. It was serious enough to put me in the hospital, they wanted to keep a close eye on me.

I was put on bed rest for about 1 month during my pregnancy because I keep bleeding but I was able to take a shower and use the bathroom. You basically just have to lay in bed or on the couch and not do to much. Just be careful what you do when your pregnant and if anything happens out of the ordinary go see your doctor.

I was just wondering because I have placenta previa and I was reading about it and one of the websites says that sometimes they will put you on bedrest. But I have a stepmom who loves kids and became a grandma before a mom and loves my kiddos and is always asking my dad if they can take them home. He said that he will talk it over with her and if it comes to bedrest where I can't take care of them then they might take them off of my hands for me. My only worry is that they are about 1.5 hours away and I don't think that I would get to see them that often. Like my hubby my dad is on call 24/7 for the UP Railroad but his wife stays home because she isn't legally allowed to work yet. Thank you for the response!

I was put on bed rest for three consecutive days when I was pregnant with my first born. I don't really like lying down for three long days, so I get up once in a while. And yes, it is safe to take a shower and go to the bathroom provided you be extra careful. Just don't carry heavy things and refrain from strenuous activities. As for the kids, better ask someone to look after them and their needs while you're at it. And refrain from stress.

yeah I was put on complete bed rest for three weeks, because the doc identified saying that the baby had not grown betweent he two visits. Well all I could do was take a shower, use the toilet, and walk up to the dining for the meals and thats about it. I love reding so I didnot mind staying in bed. I was supported by my mom during this period. I am glad that she was around

My mom was on bedrest for about 6 months with my brother. She lost her first born.. She didnt have any other kids yet. My grandmother came to help her out.. She could only get up to go to the bathroom and take a shower.. That was 60 years ago... My brother weighted almost 13 lbs. when he was born..
But after that with her other children she didnt have to stay in bed..
My mom was doing the wash when her water broke and called the doctor.. The doctor said get to the hospital.. My mom went back to finish up the landry and then went to the hospital and had me...I weight 6lb 7 oz.. I am the youngest of 4 kids..

Yes, I was put on bedrest with my third pregnacy. It was the last 4 and half mos. to be exact. I had a four year and not quite two year old. We put my oldest into half day program for pre-k and I still had my toddler at home. She was very good. She would get me things and we would just stay in our family room all day. Yes, I had to get up more than just the bathroom, but I made it through. The last two months I was in the doctors office once a week for stress test. My doctors knew our situation and just kept a very close eye on me. I wish you all the best!

i have a friend who was pregnant and she was weak so she does needed to rest most of the pregnancy. slight movement causes her to feel discomfort and the baby was put in danger. she has aan irregular menstruation and so it could probably be due to this. similarly, another office mate who has an irregular menstruation had troubles getting pregnant and was foreced to be bed ridden when she got pregnant. we were told that she could no longer have another baby because they had to take out her ovary.

I have been on total bedrest with several of my pregnacys. Yes, you can usually get up to go to the bathroom unless it reaches the point of total Bedrest. Then you have to use a bed pan. YUCK that is no fun at all. LOL I acturally lost 4 babies when I was between five and six months along into my pregnacy. I was on bedrest will all four. I was also on bedrest with my youngest daughter and it was hard as I had a two year old also. She layed with me alot and we would read books. She thought that she was just getting more attention. Good luck to you

Fortunately I was never put on bed rest. I would have had no one to help me out if I had been put on bed rest. My husband worked and wasent very helpful and my parents dont help out very much with anything either. If I was having to take care of one child while I was on bed rest because of pregnancy with another that would be really hard. My sister is pregnant and has a little bit of bleeding and cramping. Shes lucky because she lives with my parents and has people to help take care of her two kids when she needs to rest like that. I wouldnt be that lucky.
