Do you think that diet soda is actually better for you than regular soda?

I think that diet is better for you if you are thinking only in terms of weight gain. All sodas still have acid, caffeine (most anyway), and other things that are negative for your health besides the sugar. There is also the point that artificial sweeteners are receiving lots of negative attention and their safety is still being questioned. Overall, I wouldnt say that it is any better for you. Your best bet is water.

I agree that water is the best. I usually don't drink soda but I know that there is a controversy over what is betetr for you.

The artificial sweeteners, as the above poster mentioned, are far worse than sugar. I do think, though, that neither diet nor regular is good for the body at all. If I drink a soda, which is rare, I'll have a Blue Sky, which contains no caffeine and is made with spring water. I still notice a terrible spike in my blood sugar which makes me feel weak and shaky, so I try to only have one when I'm really craving it. Fortunately, we have a little movie theatre here in town that offers a Blue Sky soda and popcorn combo, so that's usually when I indulge!

I don't think either one is good for you. Regular sodas are filled with sugar and the artificial sweeteners in diet sodas aren't good for a person's health. Aspartame which is used in a lot of diet sodas has an ingredient called amino acid phenylalanine which has been known to block the production of seratonin. This can end up making a person's body actually crave foods more and end up eating more. Aspartame has also been claimed to trigger reactions in people such as seizures, depression, memory loss and slurred speech.
I've always been a diet soda drinker but recently when I learned about all of these possible reactions and took in the fact that I've had epilepsy for years I've slowly been weaning off of them. Now I try to drink more plain water and carbonated water such as Perrier.

Both have caffeine, but at least with diet soda you aren't getting filled up on sugar which is better for you even if for the fact it has fewer calories.
