i think it should be there but even so many disadvantages are there...we have just seen the news..few days before..there was rave party organised in pune...and invitations were send from orkut.....there all drugs are available...and these are organised by drug addicts and few foreigners....nou do you think is it should open to send invitations to any one....

The actual intention in keeping it open is that other people ,i mean friends of ur friends can know much about you and can become friends with you to grow network. And the number of scraps have become a craze for lads u know . It was because all the scraps was open .any way they provided a personal messaging service also no. so i dont think thats a problem.
But it would have been better if only friends are allowed to see the scraps...And if the scraps are kept hidden then there would be no difference between gmail and orkut....

ya....its there......but i dont think this will be closed anytime...because its only thing which defines orkut.......anyways thanks for responsing here.....!!!

Its the disappointing aspect of orkut and I have posted this topic a lot in mylot.As you mentioned ,if it is true can get into lot of troubles for other members of orkut.It is some thing to be cautious of.
