Not all christain sects do, the seventh day adventists have church service on Saturdays, God made the world in 6 days and on the seventh day he rested! To them it's Saturday. I know cuz when I was a little kid I used to go with my Mother and sisters. I would miss all my cartoons!! I hated going! lol! - Then I went to a catholic private school and went to masses for a few years, now I don't go to church but I do pray, I would go if I had someone to go with. -

Because Sunday is the first day of the week, also known as the Lord's Day. Historically and Biblically, this is the day that the disciples come together to break bread and worship.

I remember as a child being taught that God made the world in six days and rested on the seventh day. Man usually works from Monday to Saturday and so Sunday would be for worship. However, in the Jewish faith Saturday is the Sabbath, starting at sundown on Friday. In Portugal Sunday is considered the first day of the week. However, they do not use the usual names for the days of the week with the exception of Saturday and Sunday. Here the names are numbers, i.e. second day (segunda feira), third day (terça feira), etc. In all the countries I have visited or lived in it is the only country that doesn't have names.
