These are two thirds of the angels that turned against God by declaring to be his equal.
Led by Lucifer,who was then the Archangel, they revolted against God and were thrown down to earth.
At that single instant they were converted into demons,an impact of God's holy wrath.
With the cry of who is like unto God?,St. Micheal now the archangel;with the other third defeated the fallen angels.

Sorry it is the other way round,a third of Angels turned against God and two thirds remained faithfull to God.
Thus they passed the trial of fidelity in which they were tested by God.
Lucifer is the chief of all demons.
