The bible doesn't say the holy spirit comes to control us. It says we can receive it if we believe , and that it gives us power.

On the 14th day of the 1st month of the Hebrew calendar, God commanded the Israelites to celebrate the Passover and on the 50th day from the Passover is the Pentecost. On the Passover, the Lord Iesous Christ was crucified but He was risen on the 3rd day and for 40 days He taught His disciples then went up to heaven commanding his disciples to stay in Jerusalem and wait what He will send and on Pentecost day, the Holy Spirit as of tongue of fire came on the 12 apostles who afterwards spoke in different tongues as there were many people of different tongues assembled in Jerusalem on that day. The apostles spoke about 12 languages and dialects understood by the people and this was the first preaching led by the apostle Peter. The Pentecost was a feast commanded by God in the Old Testament and that was why there were many people in Jerusalem.

It is a celebration of the first time the Holy Spirit came down upon the apostles. This opened their eyes to the things Jesus said while on earth and allowed them to speak in tounges to the crowd and preach. Thousands were saved on the day of Pentecost.
