Picking up Behind Your Dogs When Walking them....How Hard is it?

Walking a Dog - I love walking my dog, that extra exercise they need to stretch their legs. Especially mine since he is a house dog.

One thing that bothers me more than any is when people walk their dogs and let them go right on your lawn and don't even bother to pick it up. I have a dog myself and I walk him daily and yes I pick up after him. Why can't others do the same thing? It kills me to see how they just stand there and let them hump over and just go...Then politely continue to walk like nothing ever happened... I live in a apartment complex especially during the warmer weathers, the lawncare people are out and flowers are being planted etc etc..They posted a sign on each complex stating if anyone was caught letting their animals go on the lawn they would be fined $50. Stopped that real quick...lol People work to hard on their lawns to have some random dog just go right on it. When I'm at my mothers house, she takes pride in her lawn and someone walks by and let them go, I always say "I hope you got something to pick up your dogs droppings"..lol I'll give them a bag but they have to pick it up... Why are there some people so inconsiderate of others property? Do you allow your animal to go on someone elses property? If you agree with me, express your thoughts?

I agreee with you completely. We had the same problem. We had a fair sized yard in front of and in back of the apartment complex where we used to live.It used to drive me crazy becaue I used to have a garden out back and I was continuously picking up after the negihbor's dogs. I used to complain but it did no good til the manager instituted a new rule that stated if you got caught not picking up after your dog,you got a warning,if it happened again, you either had a choice of getting rid of the dog or being evicted.

Yes, and the sad part about it is it shouldn't have to come this far for someone to enforce such harsh laws to have them get a grip. I bet they aren't messing up their yards with their own dogs doing it...Why do it on others lawns... It's not that hard, but maybe to some...

I think that is worse when people have their dogs mess on other yards but not their own yard and then do not pick up the mess. The mess that is left on the lawn can also damage lawn mowers as well as being a nuisance to the homeowner cleaning up someone elses dogs mess.

I agree with you on all points. I take my dogs for walks and I always carry a few bags with me "just in case". Our community has bag dispensers located along our pathways which helps.. and yet people will still let their dogs go to the bathroom and then not pick up after them even with the bags right there in their face! We pay an association due each month so I feel like those pathways are a part of my home, either the people walking do not live here so they don't care or they are idiots. We have a private lake and the waste gets carried into the lake over time, it's just a big problem all around and yet people just don't "get it". My dogs have never gone to the bathroom while on their walks - strange but apparently they would rather go at home but I still ALWAYS take bags with me. I have a very close friend who put in brand new grass at her home. Her neighbor has a very small dog that they allow to come outside to go to the bathroom. The dog will run right over to my friends front yard, go to the bathroom and then run back home. The lady who owns the dog will stand right there and watch and yet do nothing. My friend is beyond annoyed about it and it's killing her grass on top of it! Some people shouldn't be dog owners!!

You friend is a good neighbor, I would be saying a few things to that lady with the dog real quick...I have a dog and I treat others property as I would want my treated. If people would think along those lines, a topic like this would never be discussed..lol.. My dog he is the type that if he get enough walk in him he will go..I ALWAYS have a bag with me, as disgusting as it may be I will clean up after him. I actually smile when I know some people notices and smiles...That lets me know they appreciate what I doing...

I love the photo of your yorkie. I have a 4 pound Maltese. First I'd like to say I respect you and anyone else that has answered this post that DOES pick up after their dog. Thank You for being a responsible dog owner. Picking up poop is not something we would want to do as a steady job but in my opinion if you really really love your dog than you should be able to pick it up and not worry about it too much. It just becomes a job you do without giving thought to it. No more of a big deal than going to the bathroom yourself. What is disgusting is when you don't have a dog outside and in the summertime I love going out in my bare feet and I'm really annoyed when there's poop on my lawn and at my back door from a big dog. That's really not fair. So Yes Thank You Folks ! I just wanted to say also I'm amazed at how many appartments in the US allows pets. Here the only place you can have a pet is if you own your own home. Take Care.

i have a similar problem, but a bit different. there's a woman on my street who does pick up the poop, -but-comes on to my property like it's a park, and throws her poop in my cans, making my cans stink. (and there IS a park on the same street). she did it so often the garbage man refused to take the can due to the smell.she needs to take her own poop home with her,not leave it for other people to deal with.

Oh see I would confront this lady..lol..Me, I can take but so much before my mouth starts going..lol...Try confronting her since it's hindering you. Just ask her politely to dispose of it elsewhere and what the garbage men are telling you.. Good luck with that

It's not that It's hard to pick up the poop for me...I ALWAYS forget to take a bag......I feel bad but It's like Oh well! I don't walk my dog around the neighborhood or let her poop on people's yards...We take her to the beach. And to be honest she doesn't poop very often....she's like a human...she waits till she get's home(most of the time). Well anyway.....I never made an excuse for myself not picking up after my dog.....

Do children not play on the beach where you live? They do here and I shudder to think what it must be like on your beach. In fact on most of our beaches dogs are banned except during the three coldest months with dog wardens patrolling the beach.

I was guilty of doing these things when I was younger and there were no signs or laws about people letting their dogs make a mess on other peoples yards without cleaning up. The last time I walked a dog I did clean up their mess, though I think it is disgusting. Even though the mess should be cleaned up, I think many people do not like it because they feel it is disgusting too. This is a big reason why I do not want to get a dog, though I love them like crazy. I will always make sure if I ever walk a dog again, I will certainly clean up the mess. We have signs all over the place stating that people need to clean up their dogs mess. It has almost become a law here.

That's a good idea, I'm going to let my mom know that for her lawn. I respect your honesty. It is disgusting, but I do it because I wouldn't want anyone doing it to me...

I always make an effort to thoroughly clean up after my dog. However, on a rare ocassion, I have been caught without a bag (thinking that my dog had already "gone"), and my dog ended up going in my neighbor's sidewalk/yard area. He was outside at the time and I promised him I would be back in 5 minutes to clean it up, and I did. Dog poop is disgusting, esp. if you don't own a dog. I HATE stepping in that stuff, and I would be mortified if someone else stepped in my dog's droppings.

Yes indeed, but we all know that just respect for others property. You nor I and alot of others wouldn't want that done to our homes, unless they don't mind and I don't even want to go into that one..lol Another story.. But, Yes, it's been times I have stepped in it and it's worst stepping in it than a dog just going on a lawn...

Here in the UK it's pretty much mandatory that you scoop after your pooch poops .. .. poop'n'scoop .. ! Even in my small village the fine is £1,000 for anyone caught leaving the poop on the pavement .. and the paths have never been cleaner .. occasionally some one does get caught leaving the poop and they do get fined .. We have lots of 'doggy poop' bins in all the favourite dog walking places and they are high enough so that children can't reach them ..

That's very good, I wish they would start fining some of these people who allow their dogs to do that anywhere. I bet our areas we live would be much cleaner also...

I don't have a dog, so I can't tell you what I do...but I agree that it is really rude and inconsiderate and disrespectful when people let their animals go poo-poo (lol) on other people's lawns. We are always finding dog poop in our lawn, and there are dogs living at the houses on both sides of ours, so we're not quite sure which one it is, but we have a pretty good guess. I wish people would be more considerate.

Yes, I wish to, but some just don't care, or think it's ok...in their minds of course...I bet if they were slapped with fines they would stop doing that...

what annoys me is when you take your dog out somewhere nice, and there's a bag of poop someone has just left there. clearly there were people around, so they pick it up, carry it out of site and chuck it in a hedge. if you're that lazy why not leave it in the first place, rather than fouling and then making it even woese by littering.

I agree, Oh that' bothers me too, just to throw it anywhere...I walk my dog towards the apartments trash compactor by the time we get there, he's done his thing and I can dump it in there. It makes no sense why some do that..
11 Mar 07
Well it is the law here in the UK with I think A £50 fine for fouling but what no-one has mentioned are the health risks.Children can be blinded by dog droppings even a long time after it was done,so next time someones dog fouls your lawn get out there and tell them your child plays there and the risks involved.

I live in a neighborhood where people often just let their dogs run loose for a little while, so that the dogs will go and do their business in someone else's yard! One lady does walk her dog on a leash, stops in the street by my yard and lets the blooming dog walk into my yard to poop...then walks on! We used to camp a lot when my children were smaller and it would make me sick at campgrounds when folks would not pick up poop after their dogs...then my child stepped in it! GRRRRR.

I think vandalizing someones propety like that is horrible. Yes vandalizing-they kill the plants(though small in nature, one should take this into affect). When i had a dog, I always picked up after him on the walk: but he usually did his business at home. My favorite people are the ones that bring a bag with them; so it looks as though they are cleaning it up. When, in reality, they aren't. They are just that lazy.
