Do coworkers make you feel guilty when you come to work sick?

I don't get any kind of sick or vacation pay. If I don't work, I don't get paid. I got a cold and got grief from my coworkers for coming to work sick. I wasn't very sick, but I was sick. A couple of them even said that they will blame me if they get sick, though they really can't say they got sick from me because everyone is sick.
I work with the public and we get a lot of sick people who come to our place of business. I've had other coworkers get sick and I've caught things from them.
No one has ever gotten sick from me that I know of.
How about you, do your coworkers give you grief if you come to work with a cold?

No, not really because we're all in the same boat. We don't get paid for sick days either since we are hourly workers and not salaried and we get a LOT of grief and harassment from management whenever we call in and miss work for any reason. It's ridiculous the amount of grief we get since we're not even getting paid for the time we take off. I realize that it's difficult to keep service levels and scheduling in line when people call in, but I mean, we're human, not robots, right? There needs to be a balance.

That's kinda the opposite that I get, though I thin what happens to you is more common.
I have respiratory and other health problems. If I were to call in sick every time I didn't feel well, I probably wouldn't work at all. I am actually one to get called to work when others are sick or on vacation.
I just can't afford to take any days off for any reason. I would have to be severely ill to take a day off.

Yes, me too. I've worked there for almost two years and I've only had to call in sick once. I was still hassled about it. I had a horrible cold and they could easily see both before and after my sick day that my nose was constantly running and I was blowing my nose continually. My nose was so raw it was red. I hate calling in sick, but that day I just had to!

That also causes a lot of stress and makes you feel sicker.

This is an interesting topic, I am lucky in that I do get both holiday and sick pay, and I work in an environment where people do frequently take time off if sick. However I don't perceive that as any different to a similar sized organisation in the same sort of sector I work in. However, I try very hard not to take time off sick, because I don't want a bad sickness record. Yes people will say you shouldn't be in, but the only time I would consider taking time off is if I was physically ill, or if I was literally no good at my job, because that is no use to me or anyone else. However, to be in a position where you don't get paid would probably make me stay on so i did.

That's good. I mean, if I got sick pay, I would probably have taken one of them for this cold, but not for all the days I was sick. I mean, sometimes I don't realize I'm sick until I am blowing my nose or coughing all the time. I probably would have showed up anyway and left early.
I know some people have been sick a lot and have used up their leave time. They, also, can't take a sick day.
I just don't like people saying that it's my fault if they get sick when there are people all around them that are sick.

I think they were just being jerks. They probably want me to get anxious about coming to work the next time I get sick. Well, unless I am told I will be fired for coming into work with a cold, I am still going to do it. I mean, if they really want me to stay home, then give me sick/vacation leave.
I do have a self-policy that if I have a fever of 100 degrees or more, and I feel sick, I will not come into work. Usually a fever that high means you're infectious. But, I'm not going to avoid work for every cough or stuffy nose I have.

well it would be pretty silly of people to blame you if they became sick, sickness, colds, flu etc are airborn, some will affect everyone, some affect noone, some affect some and not others. If they are that worried then they should get flu vaccinations. How can it be that the condition they get comes from you, you obviously picked it up from somewhere, they could have got it sitting next to someone on the bus or train, or standing at a queue in a shop.. I know people say stuff like it, but they are pretty silly to genuinely believe it.

No, I don't have co workers who give me grief. As I don't work since I was shot in the leg. I can't.

Oh, sorry to hear about your leg.
Luckily, I haven't been sick with anything contagious for a year, so all is good right now.

It's kind of a catch 22 type of thing. Right now I am sick. Some sort of viral gastoentitis thing. Yep, it can be contagious to a certain area, I probably shouldn't have went to work Monday when it was starting, I was off Tuesday, and took today off. I am debating about tomorrow, because the lady who works right next to me is taking her daughter (who is in her 30's)for surgery next week, and I don't want to chance passing anything to her. But, on the other hand, that same lady would probably be the first one to make me feel guilty for NOT being there. It's one of those things you just can't win. I feel horribly guilty if I miss work, and almost as bad if I go when I'm sick. Plus, I really don't think I can think straight feeling the way I do, so.........what do you do??

It is up to you to judge if you are well enought to come to work sick. If you feel that you can function fine without making more work or expecting your co workers to pick up the slack then come to work if you are gonna be burden to them adn maybe make them ill you should stay home. I will stay home if really sick but not if it I am well enough to go out then well enough to work is the way i do it.

I felt well enough to work, just not well. Luckily, we weren't that busy, so I don't think I made more work for other people. I just had to step aside when I had to blow my nose or sneeze.

My coworkers hehehehe I'm leo by zodiac quite dominating. as such I'm very soft spoken but when I get angry ,I'm the last person you would want to talk to and may be this is my weakness but many a times this proves to be my stronger side as people know there is no sense messing with him or insulting him . Generally I avoid going to office if I'm sick but yes if I goto office as I'm suffering from cold i take all precautions to keep people away from me so that they shouldn't get caught by cold.

When I worked in offices, I found it easier to keep people from getting too close and catching things. But, where I work now, we all share the same work area and work with the public. So, we all touch each other's things. So, it's probably easier to catch things. I usually catch colds from the public and I don't even have to deal with them more than 5 minutes at a time.
