Carbon dioxide emissions from shipping are double those of aviation and increasing at an alarming rate.Which will have a serious impact on global warming.According to a study the global fleet used 280 million tonnes of fuels in 2001 and that could reach 400 million tonnes by 2020.

Shipping as a possible source of global warming has always escaped notice, everyone is busy targeting automobiles, aviation and shipping is something that has been forgotten.
Shipping is the lifeblood of global trade, with the process of global integration of economies and increase in international trade, shipping industry is growing at a fast rate and it heavily relies on fossil fuels. Carbon dioxide emissions causes a greenhouse effect and hence causes global warming.
I think all the major countries will continue to ignore this problem, because they are too busy focusing on controlling automobile pollution, so the fuel cell based hydrogen fuel technology is for the present confined only to the automobile sector.
However, if the polar ice starts melting fast, then we have a problem in our hands. I think it would be sensible to work towards creating fuel cell based ships, hybrid ships etc. now, so that whenever we face a problem in future we have an alternative to solve our problems.

Yes I would have to agree with you that shipping is causing a lot of problems to do with the sea and polluting it and it is a big increase to our global warming problems, we have to cut back on everything that is affecting our global warming, and thank you as I believe that this is very informative and you are right.

Yes, it is true, considering how much fuel ships consume at each travel venture. It will be a good idea to require ships to use filters in order to correct these harmful emissions before they get into the air.

Wow! 400 million tonnes??
In my opinion, it's the time we using another energy source such as hydrogen gas rather than using the hydrocarbon fuel. Besides, local government must really takes part in promoting the usage of other energy source to save our mother earth!
