Are there good reasons to place troubled youth into a facility that may or may not have the types of programs that parents would agree with. What type of residential care programs are the most effective for troubled youth? For example; military syle verses wilderness camps, or fundamental Christian programs as oppossed to a locked facility? If you considered putting a child of yours in a residential treatment setting, what type of programs would you look at first?

I was a Treatment Specialist (direct care staff) at a residential treatment facility. The facility should offer a wide array of services that would help different types of kids/teens, so as long as it has a good reputation, it should be fine. Ask if they do adventure-based activities, which is similar to wilderness camps, because this seems to be very effective in teaching leadership and trust with the kids. Any questions, send me a message.
