One morning you get up, off to work or wherever, You on the highway or pretty far from home and you get a flat tire..What do you do?
Now I know probably every man is going to say they know how to change a flat tire and going to outnumber us women, however, I know there are some women that don't have a problem getting right under there and changing that tire...
Unfortunetly, I'm not one of them...If I got a flat tire I would be calling my road side assistance or a friend. But, I know there are some women that can...
Now, Who out there know how to change a tire? Be honest..hehehe

I know how to change a flat tire done several over time.
Now adays seems there are jsut as many men as there are women who do not know how to change a tire or check the oil in there cars.
I watched one guy (yes it was a man) snap the lugs off his hub cap covers thing they were the real lug nuts.
Seen another who could not get the security nut off his car casue he did nt know the adapter was in the glove box.
Personnel i think changeing tire should be part of the drivers test.

Yes, I hear you on that. Probably would be a good thing. I always have my friends who tell me what I need to keep up with on my car, oil changes, fliuds, tune ups etc..If it wasn't for them, I don't know what I would have done..lol

I don't know how to change a tire either... :( Whenever I have issues with a car I call roadside assistance too.. I think we both should learn how to change one.. it would be useful for us to know in case of an emergency. Sometimes roadside assistance takes soo long to get to you..

So far where I live roadside assistance has been about 30 minutes thank goodness, you are right though we should all know basics to a car than just putting gas in it and driving it. I was told through my friends mostly what I need to do and a good mechanic who told me to bring it in for oil changes and what not...

Yes exactly, I'm the same way. As long as I know when I leave my house my cell phone is charged or I have my car charger handy. I just make that faithful call to roadside assistance for help..lol

I can change tires and do it whenever I need to. I'm also tire changer on our racing team because I could do it better than the guys we had working for us (mind you I said HAD). I enjoy it. I'm only 5'3" and 105 lbs soaking wet so size doesn't matter much. Actually I've found that smaller people have a lot of advantages over bigger people. We can get our bodies more compact to really put our weight into things. I can also deal with oil, water, transmission fluid, spark plugs/wires, carburetors, rods/lifters, headers, brakes, exhaust, shocks, fuses, wiring and body work. And yes, I'm otherwise quite feminine.
I think all the basics of car care should at least be part of driver's ed if not a requirement for a licence. These are life skills, no different than cooking or balancing a check book.
My former neighbor, an elderly woman, "caught" me changing my own tire once in my own driveway. She actually had the nerve to come over and tell me to call AAA (which I don't have) because she didn't think I should be doing that. When I told her I didn't have AAA and was fine, she started yelling at me that I should at least call a MAN to come do it for me because it was a man's job, it was too hard for a woman to do, I could do it wrong because women don't know these things, I could hurt myself....on and on until I was finished. I just sat there ignoring her for the most part and when I got done and stood up to put everything away (she's still scolding me) I said "There, I do this all the time without any help from a man" She literally "hummpfft" and stomped off.

oh wow, I see you are really good with that sort of stuff, Not I...It should be told as basics to people who not sure men and women...
As to your neighbor, some people are just use to seeing a man do certain things like change a tire...But, I commend you for doing it...Sometimes I want to learn sometimes I don't..lol I just call whomever..

I have to say I would have no idea. I would have to call my husband or dad. They already think it is funny that I don't know where to put the oil or how to check it. That would be something else for them to laugh at me about. After having answered this question I think I will learn to change a tire just incase.

lol I just found out where to put the oil..I normally go get it changed between 3000 and 5000 miles. That's all I really know, or my friend would check it for me to make sure I'm ok...

That's alright, Sometimes I wonder is it worth the wait to call someone or do it yourself. But knowing me, I would be scared or mess something up. I figured I better wait..lol

Hey,
I ams sure it is not that difficult.Even i was like you did know how to manage all this until a couple of months ago.I learnt it from my husband. It really does not matter if you are a male or a female if you use the right tool. All that you have to do is to lift the vehicle using the lever, and then, using the right fitting spanner remove the flat tyre and just fix the new one in the same place the same way you removed it.That all.I know it may sound a little risky but believe me it is damn easy.Once you do it you will become an expert and will not have to look for help in the future.

I hear that, that's something that I know I couldn't do...Not in my nature, plus to be honest I don't have the desire to learn...I rather wait, sad I know but just don't want to learn how..

I vaguely have an idea of how to change a flat tire but have not had this happen to me since I was in my late high school years. I would probably feel safer by calling Triple AAA to come rescue me if this were to happen again. If I did this, I would probably forget a step and that could be serious. LOL

Knowing me, that would be my biggest problem and I wouldn't feel safe after I changed it, I might as well call someone to do it for me. I'm not very good with that sort of stuff..

i know how to change a tyre, i have helped my bf a few times do it and watch him to learn new tricks, but only thing that worries me is doing the nuts up tight enough when putting the wheel back on, or another thing is when you try to undo the nuts to get the wheel off knowing my luck they be on there that tight i couldnt get undone lol... thats my biggest worry especially if im by myself.

I know how and in my youth changed many a tire. My mother said, as her father before her said, if you're going to drive a car you need to know the basics, how to check the fluid, put in gas and change the tires. I took it a little further, have been known to rebuild an engine or too. Also in my younger day. When I bought my first new car I swore off working on cars. In fact, I owned my truck three years before I ever lifted the hood. Thank god for warranties and having a mechanic for a son.

I don't have any clue how to change a flat tire. I think I'm too weak for that, hehe! Sometimes I can even open a bottle of soda so I don't think changing a tire is my thing. Even if I learned it, I think I still need a help. I'm not aware on how a car works...all I know is how to drive, period!

I am a woman and I have changed a flat tyre. I've done it several times over the years.
The best way to learn is to just do it. Even if you don't have a flat, go through the motions.
There is something quite satisfying in learning to do things like this yourself.
Mind you when a gentleman does come along to help, it's good to receive it.

I do know how to change a tire, in fact, I had to teach my ex husband how to do it. I also own a large truck and the jack that came with the truck is TOO short for the truck, so I would then open the glove box, and call the for the road side assistance service that I bought when I got new tires last year. I would like to purchase a jack that will work with my truck, however having the extra money just doesn't seem like it'll happen any time soon. I also can do lots of other car repair things. I spent my teenage years with my dad, who taught me that stuff. I will be teaching my daughters and sons. And I will also be teaching them all how to sew. I'm an equal opportunity teacher, I guess you could say.

I know exactly how to change a flat. I get on the cell phone and call one of the guys in the family. If that doesn't work, try looking like you're about to have an extremely weepy "breakdown". LOL I do know how, but you have to have the right equipment. Those lug nuts can be tricky-and I'm always a little worried about getting them on tight enough.

I have no idea how to change a flat tire. I think I would pick up my cell phone and call 1-800-AAA.
