Have you ever had a bad eBay experience?

I have bought from eBay in the past and everything always went great but 2 out of the 3 last things I have bought have given me problems.
One wasn't too bad as the seller refunded me , but the last one the seller won't respond to emails. I bought the items for my son's birthday and now I'm not sure if they will be here in time. Two other items that I won afterwards already arrived, one 2 weeks ago and one last week. I have emailed the person twice with no response to see when the items were sent and am getting very frustrated. What would you do?

Can I ask, did you ask the seller before you bid if they could get the items to you by special delivery? Did you ask the seller via eBays message system? I ask this as people are not always at their computers 24/7. I have found that communication is usually the problem between sellers and buyers on eBay. I do both on eBay and have found that if people have a little patience, things work well.
when you think of the number of successful transactions on eBay, you are bound to find the odd one or two that can go a little wrong.

No I didn't ask for special delivery as I purchased it nearly a month ahead of when I would need it.
I realize people are not always by their computers, but I have emailed twice. The first email was over a week ago and the second 5 days ago. I understand if there was a problem, but I would like to be notified. In the emails I just asked politely when the item was sent.
