I am almost affraid to admit that I was a cheerleader from reading your posts LOL.
I was not stuck up, I was very down to earth. I tried it for a year and decided that after that year it really wasn't for me. I had fun while being one though.

Thanks for the reminder. I sometimes forget about that stuff. I'm glad to know there are some diverse responses here. We don't hate you because you were a cheerleader. I guess the experience could be fun. As I stated, I did try out for wrestling cheerleading. I think making it could have changed my high school experience although I'm not sure it would have been for the better.

I was a cheerleader all thru middle school and high school. Fortunately, we did not have a school that was any good at sports or anything. So none of the girls were stuck up except maybe 2.
I actually miss it. I did coach for a couple years, but that sure didn't pay the bills. WOW.... $600 for 5 months of work. Required to attend every game and practice 5 days a week.
I couldn't believe it!

Well, you are right about that. They were a little stuck up. I love it when that happens too. People who thought they were so good...

Wow! So much hate against cheerleaders. LOL. I wanted to try out to be a cheerleader but my parents said no because I had asthma. I regret that I didn't try out. Alot of you said that cheerleaders are so fake. I think that some are but the cheerleaders at my highschool were actually pretty decent.

Were your parents overprotective or were their fears justified? Do you think it would have changed your high school experience to have been a cheerleader?

Wow. that's a little harsh. It was unspoken at my school. If you didn't have the "right" last name, you weren't going to make it.

I was too self consious to be a cheerleader. And I hated girls like that...so stuck up. Ugghhh.

I didn't mean to insinuate that there was something wrong with being one, although my experience doesn't always say that.

I auditioned for Cheerleading my freshman year of high school. The girls on the squad were really mean and self-involved. I was good at what I did and I think they didn't choose me because they were threatened.
I joined the dance team instead and had no problem getting on the team.

Did your school have a pretty big rivalry between the dance team and cheerleading squad? I was on my college's dance team and the girls on the cheerleading squad really hated most of the dancers.

Not even! You couldn't have paid me to be a cheerleader in high school. I just wasn't one of those "girly" girls.

Nothing wrong with that. Most of my friends were the same. I can't sing and I quit band because it was too much work.

I love to sing and dance, but I hate cheer because it is too limited.

I wasn't a cheerleader in high school, but I was the cheerleading captain at my middle school in eigth grade. I really enjoyed it and had hoped to continue in high school. I went all the way through the tryouts and was told that I would definitely be on the squad, but on the last day of tryouts I decided it just wasn't right for me. I was going to have to sacrifice some things that meant a lot to me in order to attend the cheer camps that summer and it just wasn't worth it. I had already promised to volunteer as a counselor for my church camp that summer and I would have had to give that up to attend one of the camps. I missed cheering, but I never regretted my decision. Our high school cheerleaders ended up having very bad reputations anyway, so I was glad not to be associated with them. I continued taking dance lessons a couple of nights a week and found it to be just as enjoyable.

I was a cheerleader for four years in High school, I finally was a part of the Varsity team my senior year, That was the greates year of my life, I had a blast cheering. Not all cheerleaders are bad. I was kind of the odd ball on the team. All the girls on our team were either dating a jock, prep, or someone in Student counsel. My boyfriend (now my husband) was a skater!
