I'm going to be going away to live on an island for six months in a few weeks. I'm going to be using some of this time to catch up on my reading. Has anyone read any good books lately that you would reccomend? I'm an avid reader, so I'm not picky about genres, just looking for some good books.

Thanks very much. I've heard that as the crow flies was good, I just can't ever seem to find it in the library. I'll check all of them out.

Whenever I buy books online I buy them from Amazon. Books are much cheaper because you have a varietiy of choices to choose from when it comes to who you buy from.

Wow, this one is a tough one, simply because there are so many I could recommend!
If you enjoy humorous fantasy, then I recommend the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett. I think there's 31 of them now, and any of them are well worth the read. I also recommend "Good Omens" by Terry Pratchett/Neil Gaiman, and it is, again, a humorous novel.
If you like science fiction, then I recommend Jack McDevitt, and my favourite novels of his (so far) is "A Talent for War" and "Polaris", although I enjoy all of them. I also recommend Robert J. Sawyer - I believe the series is called the "Hominid" series.
I'll stop, because I've been out to check my bookcases, and I could recommend every book on those shelves (and that's edging towards 1000, I think), so...I'll leave it at this!

I have recently started reading a lot of Raymond Lamon books. If your into horror/mystery I think you will like these. Esp. The Celler, and Beast House. This is part one and two, part three will be out in July. Also look into Laurell K. Hamilton, Nina Bangs, Kelly Armstrong, and Kim Harrison.

I've read Eragon, and I liked it a lot. I've been trying to find Eldest in the library but it's always out. I'll be sure to check it out though whenever I find it.

I love James Patterson, all of his books are wonderful. He has too many to list here.
I also love Anne Rice both her Witches and Vampire series are wonderful. With the Vampire series being the best I just love Lestat one of the main characters throughout the entire series.
Ann Rule's books are great also they are true crime novels, very well written, good plot structure, alot of twist and turns, hard to put down.
And I Absolutely Love (Jefferson Bass) the writing team of Dr. Bill Bass (founder of the Body Farm) and Jon Jefferson.
The two novels that are currently out are "Carved In Bone" and Flesh and Bone - both are wonderful and of course have alot of forensic detail.
I also love Kathy Reichs and Patricia Cornwell all of their books again are really good.
And the new Nora Roberts trilology is out.

James Patterson is one of my favorite authors. Right now I'm reading The Lifeguard. I just finished The Lake HOuse, and I'm hoping he has another book about the flying Kids. I know he has a eries out about Maximum, but it doesn't have any of the characters from the original books.
