Childrens stories you wouldn't want to read to your own kids

It occurred to me just now that some of the stories we may have been read at bedtimes as kids, we wouldn't actually want our own children to hear. There may be memories, born from hearing about odd characters or situations that you wouldn't wish on anyone else. So i'm wondering if a certain book left a damaging imprint on you, perhaps a violent character or something. Also, do you see stories as almost timeless or are there some titles that are so out of date you just wouldn't read them again anyway ?
