what would people most like to receive as a birthday gift

I would like to know what people would most like to receive as a birthday gift.
I am curious because i have a load of birthdays approaching and no new ideas as to what i should get people.
I have bought them everything i know they would want already...please HELP

I have started buying a bunch of small items for birthday gifts and put them in a gift bag. I usually will put in a note pad, a funny/different pen (maybe a feather pen), a candle, some candy, sleep pants, crazy socks. I like getting things like this...it makes it fun.

Hey,
Thats a good idea. I have done something similar in the past, but I always worry that people will want to know where the 'big present' is.
I think I will have to go the lots of smaller gifts route though cos I have no big ideas.

I know people say that it's the thought that counts, but even so you dont want to get someone a gift that they clearly dont want or need.
