Would You Watch A Sub-titled Movie?

I sometimes watch subtitled foreign movies especially if my japanese boss shares some of his dvd collections. just like you, I also prefer to watch a subtitled film than a dubbed one coz i wanted the sound to be as natural as the action. One advantage is, i get to learn a few words of the film's language. However, i don't watch subtitled films just for the purpose of improving my knowledge of other language but for pure enjoyment of the creativity of other foreign films. One thing that annoys me though (just sometimes), is when the subtitle changes locations on the screen. I would normally wanted to see it at the bottom of the screen so i can get an easy view of the scene.

i dont mind watching sub-titled movies. most of my favorite movies are. especially the passion of the christ. got that is such a great movie. i also watch alot of japanese movies that alot of american movies are based on.

A lot of the movies I love are subtitled. Bollywood films along with others. One of my new favorite movies was "Pans Labyrinth". It was an artistically amazing movie, and the story was just amazing. have you seen it yet? I HIGHLY recommend it. The previews make it seem as if its a childs fairytale story, however it is far from so, and i would advise NOT to take a child to see it. It is far more an Adult Fairytale, truly a masterpiece :)

i watch so much sub-titled movie so its not a problem for me. sometimes its even helpful when you watch those. i know its extra effort but you understand the movie more.

I am quite happy to watch a sub-titled film, particularly if I am finding it a little difficult to hear. If it is a foreign film, then the sub-titles are essential for understanding, and I don't think there is any great effort needed to simply read the words

There's nothing wrong with thinking when watching a movie. It's just reading words at the bottom of a screen, it's not that bad. Some Japanese films have been excellent with subtitles. I watched a Kurosawa movie once that way. I watched "Amelie" in French once to help me with that language, so subtitled movies are often educational.

Sure I watch them quite often - particularly the Indian ones. Love them! It is a bit of extra effort but once I get into the film really I'm not even aware of reading the sub titles.

I've always wanted to see the full versions of some of my favorite Run Run Shaw / Shaw Brothers movies in their entirety. If they were available with the subtitles, yeah - I'd DEFINITELY watch them. Even then, I heard that the original versions did have subtitles, as the different actors in the movies supposedly at times spoke different dialects, they needed the subtitles so that Cantonese & Mandarins alike could enjoy them, being that the writing is the same throughout. They may have also had English subtitles. The problem is, when foreign movies get dubbed into English, they used to put so much effort to match the mouth movements to the English words, to the point that in trying to follow the story line, some of the things just didn't add up, because of missing parts that they could not match up. Only one case where they did something that I thought was silly, but at the same time, I fully understand it. They were unable to match the English words to the mouth movements, so instead of showing the face of who was talking, they only showed his cheek & ear. It wuld be an extra effort to watch the movies, as you'd need to read the subtitles to know what was being said. Some people can & are willing (like me), some can but cannot be bothered, & some would have trouble.

I watched jet-li's fearless and it was awesome with the titles. It tells u a lot

I like to watch foreign films too. I never watch the dubbed version (they're usually terrible) - unless I cannot get the movie with subtitles. Subtitles don't bother me - I actually feel like they are helping me learn the language better.... plus it makes the movie more authentic....because sometimes words don't translate very well into English.

I don't usually watch a sub titled film but when someone tells me that this foreign movie is this good I don't mind at all. I watched a subtitled Korean film once recommended by my friend and I loved it. I learned few Korean words by that film so it is never wasted and it just shows that learning is always present in everything we do.

Yes, I only watch Sub-titled Movie if I like the movie. Usually Chinese movies or Japanese movies. It really depends on the movie, if it's a highly rated movie.

I prefer not to watcj movies with subtitles, but if it's a good movie I usually can keep up. I recently saw Pans Labrynth and thought it was very good. But one movie with subtitles I didn't like was crouching tiger hidden dragon. So it really depends for me but I don't really like subtitles.

yes of course...sub titled movies help us to understand more the dialogue they used..like chinese movies...not all viewers understand chinese so throuh their subtitle we can understand what the film has to imply..viewers would appreciate the film even not their own film......

i have seen lots of movies in subtitles...like fearless of jet li which is really good. i did not mind reading the words in english. i have also seen jet li's hero in english subtitle. it is really a nice film, too. no regrets! my boyfriend sent me a copy of a korean love story entitled Sassy Girl. it's a funny romantic film. and i love the story. again, no regrets. however,sometimes, i feel it's better not to read the subtitles if given the chance not to. i want to focus more on the film and not on the letters. but there are films that are worthy watching even when reading subtitles at the same time.

i dont mind watching a subtitled movie.. it never bothered me before and i would watch it again.. i think its just a movie. and sometimes when its english.. and they have sub titles in english too.. i still read it. i guess its just a habit that i do

The one subtitled film that I enjoyed was the Passion of the Christ. I'm a fast reader, but others in my household aren't. We could all read that because the text stayed on the screen awhile. I hope to be able to expand my film selections one day.

I Hate Dubed Movies ..it's so ugly to hear Gerard Depardieu in english when it's not his voice (for example).Or let's say ur' from I don't know what country ...Let's say Romania(:P) would you like to hear Silvester Stalone in ROMANIAN????? i don't think so ....or maybe in German :)) .PEople that don't read ..are just plain LAZY

Well theres nothing wrong in watchin movies with subtitles. watching movies with subtitles makes you tounderstand the movie more. Usually i prefer using subtitles when watchin movies with fast speech becuz english is not my primary language so im not used to fast accent but i donot like large fonts for subtitles as they black the screen.

Subtitle movies are awesome. They take you out of the North American feel of a movie (which is a nice change now and again). My favorite ones are Toni Jaa's movies. (ONG BAK etc.)
