Could you give it all up?

Would you be willing to give up your worldly possessions and relations (pets and family, excluded; spouses, optional) to live a life of simplicity and humility? I think I would.

i think about this sometimes and I have realized that I am only using what is right in front of me simply because it is right in front of me. I wouldn't be on the computer except for the fact that I am home all day and besides my kids it is the only thing that really keeps my attention. I only want more clothing because I feel funny seeing the same people all the time and they always see me in the same outfits because i don't own much. I want a nicer car because I hate riding in something that I fear will break down. I want a nicer house for many reasons. If I were to become a monk or something similar then I think I could adapt fairly well. I wouldn't have the need for the car or the clothing. Same with the house- if I have somewhere to live that I enjoy, I don't need to have something better. I can live without computers and television as long as I have something else to occupy my time. I would definately miss certain things but many I think I could live without them! Now if I had to do the same but be on a boat...no way! I get sea sick, the only sea food I eat is seaweed and I am afraid of deep water when I cannot see what is under me!!! Ok...terrified!

I figure just simplify it more and more then complicate it if and when you love somebody enough to justify that. make sure first I figure I have somebody in mind she is kinda flakey though when I asked her for a date she said no, twice, maybe 3 times, should I ask again? I do love her.

Sounds like she's already complicating things! Either (sorry to say) she's not interested, or she's playing hard to get. Either way, sounds like someone who could cause you a lot of heartache in the long run. If you haven't gone out with her yet, how do you know you love her? Have you known her for a long time? Do you see her on a regular basis? Take it from someone with experience: don't let your emotions get the better of you and upset your peace. Good luck.

I would like to give up everything but I don't think I could do it willingly right now. I am trying to give up possessions a bit at a time. It's very liberating to give away stuff. But I still want things! I saw a great T shirt that showed a 50's style housewife surrounded by mountains of consumer goods and she was saying, "I'd like some more THINGS please!" Sometimes I feel that way. One time I saw a documentary on the Amish which concluded that they were the most contented people in the US, and even knowing that, who among us wants to give up all of our stuff to be like them.

oh well there are many things I wish I could get rid of.... last year I got rid of my past boyfriend who was so nice to break my heart...and now I would happily give up with my boss at University and a lot of people I have to work with and I have to pretend I like working with...I would give up with working with ignorant people who think they have the right to be bossy with you only because they are older and more important than you...I would get rid of all bad memories and I have the opportunity of doing all the thing I love and only things I love...but I don't think I would get rid of all the things I struggled so much to obtain either material things or spiritual things...I think I still have so much to learn but I think I am already quite a simple and humile person!!!
