Shortcut keys help provide an easier and usually quicker method of navigating and using computer software progams.Shortcut keys are commonly acessed by using the ALT,CTRL, and / or Shift in conjunction with a single letter. The de facto standard for listing a shorcut is listing the modifier key, a plus symbol and the single charecter. Or in the other words, "ALT+S" is telling you to press the Alt key and while continuing to hold the Alt key, press the S key to perform the shorcut.
The basic shortcut keys are :
Alt + F = File menu options in current progam.
Alt + E = Edit options in current program
F1 = Universal Help in almost evrey Windows progam
Ctrl + A = Select All
Ctrl + X = Cut selcted item
Shift + Del = Cut selected item
Ctrl + C = Copy selected item
Ctrl + Ins = Copy selected item
Ctrl + V = Paste
Shift + Ins = Paste
Home = Goes to biginning of current line
Ctrl + Home = Goes to biginning of document
End = Goes to the end of current line
Ctrl + End = Goes to end of document

I use my keyboard short cuts all the time especially since I started using firefox browser. They are eaasy and simple to use and very helpful if your mouyse messes up like mine has a few times. clttl+t opens another tab. I also use ctrl+alt+del to close programs down and other ones.

Ctrl+C to Copy
Ctrl+V to Paste
Ctrl+X to Cut (only in an editable document, of course)
Ctrl+Z to Undo
Windows+D to go to the Desktop (and minimise open applications)
Windows+E to open My Computer (Windows Explorer)
Windows key on its own brings up the Start Menu
Alt+Tab allows you to select other open windows
In Internet Explorer or Firefox (and other browsers), Backspace is the same as the Back arrow and F5 refreshes/reloads the page. Ctrl+D bookmarks the page you are on. In most forms you can select the next field using the Tab key and Return will generally operate any OK button on the page.
Menu operations from the Menu bar can be used from the keyboard by pressing the Alt key and then the underlined letter for any of the Menu commands. It's worth knowing, too, that the items in the Start Menu can also be selected this way (but you don't need to press the Alt key first). If your mouse fails to work it can be very useful to access Control Panel this way - Windows, C [you may need to press C more than once to select Control Panel], Return, then use the arrow keys or press S repeatedly to select the System properties. From there you can uninstall and reinstall the mouse.
A quick way to shut down Windows (and the PC) without fiddling with the mouse is the following sequence: Windows, U, U. Restart: Windows, U, R

I use these shortcut keys a lot and very often, as in daily basis. For one, we have a separate program for encoding daily transactions of the organization. We use the F9 very much to select the options from a list. I don't know if you have heard of this program but it's called ICBA.
For Word and Excel, we use the following:
Alt+F+S = save
Alt+F+C = close document / worksheet
Alt+F+O = open worksheet
Alt+F+P = print a worksheet
Alt+F+X = close program
Alt+E+F = search / replace a word
Alt+E+C = copy word/s or cell/s
Alt+E+P = paste copied word/s or cell/s
Alt+F+G = preview page before printing
Alt+I+R = insert row/s
Alt+O+C = format cell/s
Alt+O+P = format page
Alt+W+F = freeze window
Alt+W+S = split window
Alt+Ctrl+Del = end not responding programs
F1 = help
F2 = edit a cell
Oh, before I forget, I also use the shortcut keys to create special characters known as the ASCII codes. {çüté}

I am learning to use it right now... It is more easier and faster especially when you are making documents using MS Word. You can use shortcuts to perform common commands like ctrl+b/i... many more.

Regular user will never use shortcut key because they're not confident with it. The most shortcut key i always use is alt-c and alt-v for copy n paste :) LOL it doesn't mean i'm the plagiate person, but in my work, that shortcut so familiar with me. Others shorcut i use is at-tab, alt-f4, ctrl-z, alt-arrow and so on. There are so many even i cannot memorize it so well. :)

I use shortcut keys very often. I use it most of the time. Using keyboard is more faster and efficient to me. Come to think of it, you cannot work without a keyboard rather than without a mouse. Since most of the time we use SAP, F4 and F8 is very useful. I also use F5, shortcut for refresh. I also use Alt + TAB to switch between programs.. Ctrl + F4 when closing documents. Yes, Alt + F4 is also helpful in closing programs. TAB key is very useful when you are in a window, and you want to go to all keys, TAB is a good help without the mouse. Most of all, ALT is also one of the most helpful keys. When you see a dialog box and asking for your selection, just look at any underlined letter, press ALT first, then the underlined letter of your choice. That is when not using mouse. Try it you feel a lot faster.

Yes, I use the shortcut keys also. I believe everyone does. If the instruction says that F1 to F12 brings me to some features of the program faster, I will surely make use of the keys. Alt+tab and everything else are shortcuts which will make it faster, so I use them, too.
