I own several pairs of this specie. They're very nice and entertaining with many colors like blue and white, blue and grey, blue yellow green of several shades, red eyed yellow, red eyed white, green, blue and white and many other shades of colors. They have began to multiply last year, but something happened and they started to die one by one. I have to consult a veterenarian in order to stop the outbreak of the strange disease. The veterenarian prescribed an antibiotics and the deaths suddenly stopped. Hopefully, they will again multiply now that they have recovered.

African Lovebirds? these birds are hardy, probably they were infected with some type of flu, I hope its not the avian influeza (H5N1) thing. glad they are alright now.

Sorry to tell you ever_ready but that kind of disease does not exist here. I think it may be due to the weather since it was particularly cold the last few months although we are located just slightly above the equator and classified as tropical. The bad weather must have been the effect of the global warming happening in the world right now. Oh, and by the way, they are not African Love Birds. They're the local variety common in the tropics.

sorry to hear about the babies dying! the vet never told you what the antibiotic was for? i suppose either way it doesnt matter...im pretty sure it would not have been the bird flu cause they would have reported the infection to the gov and they probably would kill off all the others to prevent it from spreading. hopefully everyone will be healthy again very soon. i have about 20 of the little green turkeys in an aviary on the back porch..and there are 2 things they are really good at, being loud and obnoxious and making more of themselves (i started with 5!) good luck!

I believe it's nothing of the sort that would make the government slaughter fowls just like in China. The vet did not think that it is the serious type that infects people. If it is, then me and my family would have been the first to get the infection. So far, no such cases were known here up to this moment. Those cases I believe are prevalent in countries whose technologists are getting too ambitious so they concoct and do things haphazardly in the name of technological progress regardless of the end result of such technology. Regarding turkeys, I love to eat turkey ham but I hate to have them in the house. They are so loud and obnoxious to me. I mean the regular turkeys. I wonder if the green ones are the same. Thanks for the reply

lol! sorry..."little green turkeys" is what we've been calling the lovebirds. they can be so mean to each other (and each others babies) that quite often the term "love" shouldnt be in their name at all! sorry for the misunderstanding!
