We are trying to get some work done on our house, specifically getting our shower tiled. I have been in contact with numerous companies, have scheduled time for them to come and give an estimate, and have repeatedly been "stood up", without a phone call. Has anyone else had problems with so-called professionals not acting professional? Is it just me? Just my area?

Contractors tend to be the most unprofessional professionals. Its pretty common all over. The last one I had to use ( due to the insurance company paying for it ) did such a shotty job I had to go back in and redo all the repairs myself. You'll have to do a lot of research to find the good ones.

Last year we hired a roofer to replace ours; he came out with his dad and they both seemed so very nice. They brought out samples of the types of shingles we could choose from. We made the mistake (because we didn't know) of giving him half down to purchase materials, etc. We also didn't check to see if they had a license. Our fault.
We kept calling him and he never showed up. We paid $3,500 to him and he just skipped out. Mark went to sheriff and supposedly they have a warrant out for his arrest but unless he gets stopped for a ticket or...I don't think we'll ever see that money again.
Mark also contacted a lawyer to try to work on it but then hasn't followed up with the lawyer; so, if Mark doesn't get his money back, it's going to be partly his fault...That's an awful lot of money, if you ask me!
