All you dog lovers, think over this, What do you prefer to have a pedigree breed or would you prefer giving home to a street dog. Would it be a good idea to bring home a homeless or spend a lot of money and buy pedigree breed. How would you justify your decision

If I could, I would rather take all street dogs, because I know that no one will take care of them, since those with pedigree are most wanted and will be treated better. But I have a problem, as everyone else - what could I do with so many dogs, and the worst thing is - I don't know how old any of those dogs are and I get so attached to them :(

We had to have our family dog put down a little over a year ago and we haven't gotten our hearts back to a place where we can consider another one yet. However, lately, we've been spending a lot of time monitoring the website of a nearby adoption centre. The owner takes in mainly dogs and cats and has a stringent system where she takes applications for people looking for a pet. She also helps to "match" people with an appropriate dog for their living situation. If we add a new pet to our home, it's likely that we will adopt one from her centre. They get dogs from all sources including the pound, owners who for some reason can no longer keep their pets, etc. Not all the dogs are young either -- I've seen some in the 7 and 8 year old range looking, again, for a home. They care for the dogs well, getting all their shots up to date and having them altered before anyone gets to take them home... and they charge a flat rate adoption fee to help cover all those expenses and to keep running their adoption centre. It's a good organization and I would heartily support their work. The only need I could see for me to have a pedigreed animal would be if I were involved in breeding them, I think.

Its really wonderful to know that there are people who work had to the cause of saving the street animals. If each of the dog lovers contribute a little then i guess the problem would be solved. Yes, i know how you would have felt when you lost your dog. i too have gone through similar situation and know that it hurts a lot.

It would have a nice idea to adopt a street dog and my uncle has one actually but they are little bit difficult to train, I do not mean that they are less-intelligent than a Pedigree breed, but, I find them little too resistant to accept the training sessions. And infine personal preference plays a major role in this regard as most of us has certain preference for a particular breed which you can't ignore.

Yes i totally agree that we all have our own personal preferences and thats the reason why people hesitate to adopt a dog and rather go for a pedigree one. They also have become a status symbol these days. I'm not really convinced that street dogs are difficult to train. May be your uncle (he had done a wonderful job of adopting one)had adopted a grown up one. In case if adopted when its a puppy then training should not be any problem. What do you say???

We have a purebred dog and two dogs that were strays. I have to say the purebred is more tempermental then the other two. It is also the dog that barks the most at people that walk by or other dogs that get in the yard. I think as far as how smart they are depends on the dog and how it is trained. The purebred has so many traits that drive me nuts but they are typical of that breed. I think I really actually enjoy my street dogs better to be honest. I love all of my dogs and each are unique but if given the choice at this point it would diffently be a street dog that I would have.

i love mutts from the streets. Well not really from the streets, but ones from an animal shelter. In my expereince, our dogs they are great family dogs and you save a whole bunch of money. Full-breds also tend to have more health problems than mutts too.

I love animals. All animals, except lizards. If I can, I would like to pet several animals like dogs, cats, horses, cows, goats, sheep, monkeys, rabbits, etc. Street dogs or pedigreed dogs, it makes no difference to me. As of now, I don't have a pet because I can't, but when I can first I'll get dogs.

Over the years I have had many so called street dogs or mutts, but at the moment I own 2 purebreds. Which is because I know what I want and I want to know what I'm getting and dont mind paying for the best.
